Irene Szuchun Yee

Contestant

Irene Yee is a native to Los Angeles, California. She was raised in a traditional Chinese household that emphasized math and sciences and discovered her passion for acting in high school when she attended an Entertainment Experience class. The final class of the course was a showcase where Irene was scouted by an agent, and this began her journey.

Shortly after, she had to put her dream on hold to attend college at UC Santa Barbara. Her parents pressured her to major in business economics, which she did. However, the acting bug would not subside and halfway through her sophomore year, she decided to double major in dramatic art in secret. Irene was extremely active in the drama and film department. She was in Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar," starred in "Necrobiosis," which premiered at the UCSB film festival and was in "To Be" which was accepted and premiered at the Q Film Fest in Long Beach.

After graduation Irene furthered her acting education. Although she worked at a bank full-time, she took evening classes at the Groundlings, Ivana Chubbuck's Studio as well as the Margie Haber Studio and within a short time, she began booking national commercials. She constantly sought projects to work on and helped produce/act in the web series "Behind the Scenes." With her foundation complete, and through a stroke of luck, she landed her role in "Siberia."

This journey has taught her that with persistence and strong will, anything is possible. Despite her parents' constant push for her to be a CPA, she continues to live her dream. The funniest moment she recalls was right after college when she moved back home and had left her bank job to work in a restaurant. She continued to wake up every morning at seven and would dress up in business clothes to wear as she left the house, so her parents would not be suspicious.

Her determination and drive carries over to her other passion which is helping the environment, endangered species and abused animals. She donates to multiple organizations and helps in any way she can. Irene also hopes that one day she can use her skills of speaking Mandarin and Spanish for humanitarian work. On her days off you will find her ballroom and salsa dancing the night away!
