Daniel Gillies currently recurs on the hit series "The Vampire Diaries." He recently finished his film "Broken Kingdom," which he starred in, wrote and directed. Gillies was also the lead in the independent film "The Sensation of Sight," opposite David Strathairn ("Good Night and Good Luck"). He starred opposite Elisha Cuthbert in the Roland Joffe film "Captivity," and was seen in several parts of the Steven Spielberg mini-series "Into the West."
Gillies' film credits include "Bride & Prejudice" as well as "Spider-Man II," in which he played the role of John Jameson, Tobey Maguire's nemesis and Kirsten Dunst's love interest.
His stage credits include "The Godboy," for which he won a Chapman-Tripp Theatre Award for Best Actor for his role as Jimmy Sullivan. His other credits include "The Lower Depths," "Anthony and Cleopatra," "PlayLunch," "Julius Caesar" and "The Judas Kiss." Gillies has also written and directed his own play, "Maybe," which was performed at the Unitec Theatre in New Zealand.
