Saying Goodbye to Andy Samberg

Posted June 4, 2012 11:59 AM

As you've all heard by now, Andy has confirmed that this past season was his last as a cast member here at SNL. And while we are so sad to see him go (dude was one of the nicest, funniest people to be around), we are very excited to see all the amazing things he'll do post-SNL. So let's take a look back at some of our favorite Samberg sketches!!

Digital Short: Lazy Sunday
No list would be complete without the Short that launched Andy and "Digital Shorts" into an important part of the show's zeitgeist during his 7 years at SNL.

Digital Short: Lettuce
Lettuce was actually the very first Digital Short made by Andy, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, airing two shows before "Lazy Sunday."

Weekend Update: Get in the Cage
Getting actual Nicolas Cage to "get in the cage" with Andy's Nicolas Cage was one of the most memorable moments from this past season. High praise indeed.

Digital Short: Dick in a Box
There have been some great trilogies throughout history: Star Wars, Die Hard, The Lord of the Rings and we are so happy that we could add a trilogy of our own to that list.

Digital Short: Motherlover

Digital Short: 3-Way (The Golden Rule)

Jesse Eisenberg Monologue
Pro-Tip: The key to any great Mark Zuckerberg impression is a hooded sweatshirt and saying, "I'm Mark Zuckerberg."

Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals
Hands-down one of our favorite Samberg impressions. So funny!

Mark Wahlberg Backstage
That impression also led to this great moment, because actual Mark Wahlberg is an aggressive dude.

Digital Short: Laser Cats, The Musical
We're pretty sure the whole Laser Cats idea sprang from writer/director/Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone really wanting his 2 cats to become TV stars.

Digital Short: Iran So Far
The way Adam Levine sings the line, "Jim Caviezel" still makes us laugh so hard.

Scared Straight
The very first scared straight.

Jimmy Mirror
An homage to a sketch that Fallon had done with Mick Jagger when he was a cast member at SNL, we loved seeing Andy and Jimmy paired up together. Andy was actually originally brought to Lorne's attention by Jimmy after Andy wrote for Fallon when he hosted the MTV Movies Awards.

Digital Short: Two Worlds Collide ft. Reba McEntire
During this past season, the writers, cast and producers did a Digital Short March Madness bracket to determine office D.S. favorites. This short made it all the way to the Final Four, rightfully so.

Horse Play
Andy is one of the writers of "Horse Play," (and "Bunny Business," and "Doggie Duty") and we just love that everyone gets to bring out a bunch or randomly awesome impressions. Samberg's Robert Smith is amazing!

Our Time with Taboo and apl. de. ap
Finally the non- Fergie and Will.i.am. Black Eyed Peas get their moment to shine.

Weekend Update: Cameron the Bird
Andy had a couple of memorable Bird moments on Weekend Update. There was Cameron covering a bizarre string of mysterious bird deaths...

Weekend Update: Larry the Goose
Larry the Goose covering the Capt Sully/"Miracle on the Hudson" plane crash...

Weekend Update: Scrooge McDuck
And Scrooge McDuck covering the financial crisis.

Immigrant Tale
Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg's forefathers predict their descendant's future successes on SNL.

El Shrinko

MTV Skins
People around the office are STILL saying, "Subway, so good."

Mr. Produce
It's important to remember three things while watching this sketch: DeNiro's character is getting angrier and angrier at Samberg's character, DeNiro's character is holding an actual knife, and DeNiro seems like the type of actor that may go "method" and accidentally murder someone. So scary, so funny.

Meet the Family
Writer/Director/Lonely Island member, Akiva Schaffer wrote this sketch after being impressed by Andy's Christopher Walken impression saying if Andy (who is not known for impressions) can do a passable Walken everyone must be able to. Fun Fact: Not everyone can do a Walken.

Blizzard Man
In our heads Blizzard Man would have for sure been the opening act for the "Dick in a Box" dudes on their 1993 concert tour of the Bay Area.

Rahm Emanuel Address Cold Open
A great impression and we get to see Andy saying, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"

Rahm Emanuel
Those turns are chilling.

The Rock Obama
Andy actually wrote this sketch and we still marvel at how great an idea it was.

The New Boyfriend Talk Show
After Rahm let's cool it down with one of Andy's sweet, misguided, little boy characters. Aw little buddy, you're mom's a slut.

Weekend Update: Cathy
"Ack!! Sweat drop, sweat drop, sweat drop!"

Under 21

Fraternity

The Mellow Show
Jack Johnson was one of the first impressions Andy did on the show.

The 100th Digital Short
Outside of Weekend Update, cast members don't really have the opportunity to reach the 100th milestone for any character or segment they're a part of so we were so incredibly impressed by this achievement and so happy to see all our old friends back together again.

Lazy Sunday 2
It speaks for itself: "On these New York streets I honed my fake rap penmanship. That's how it began and that's how Im'a finish it!" Revisiting Lazy Sunday was the perfect way to wrap up an incredible 7 years with the show.  Andy, we love you, we'll miss you, and we can't wait for you to come back and host. Knock em dead!
