Jimmy Fallon's back in 8H and to celebrate his return we put together some of the cast and writers' picks for most memorable Fallon sketches!
Alex Baze, Weekend Update Head Writer/Producer: "Weekend Update Play"For his pick, Baze (who started writing for SNL the season after Jimmy left) went with the "Weekend Update Play" where Jimmy picks up his son from Tina because it was "just such a nicely done piece, and Jimmy got through it without breaking." Sort of. From the April 9th, 2005 show here's "Weekend Update Play."
Taran Killam, Cast Member: "Recording Studio (More Cowbell)" The reasoning behind Taran's pick is simple: Cowbell is "Jimmy's best 'break.'" And it's true. For a guy who spent just about as much time laughing in a scene as he did performing, Fallon has had some pretty memorable breaks, but none are as good or as understandable as "Cowbell." Enjoy the moment where Jimmy loses it the hardest!!
Rob Klein, Writer: Update - Jimmy Goes for the GrammyKlein, writer of such sketches as "What Up With That" and "The Miley Cyrus Show," chose this moment from Update because "the whole thing is amazing." Adding, "I don't know what's better, that Jimmy's going to do research to find out who invented glasses, or that he still thinks about the song from Ghostbusters."
Andy Samberg, Cast Member: Barry Gibb Talk Show Andy Samberg's path to SNL got a major boost in 2006 courtesy of Jimmy Fallon when Samberg, along with fellow Lonely Island members Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, wrote for Jimmy during the 2006 MTV Movie Awards. It was, in fact, a recommendation from Jimmy that helped Andy get his initial audition at SNL! For his pick, Andy knew that it had to be the first Barry Gibb Talk Show because when he watched it that first time, "it immediately became my favorite thing I'd seen Jimmy do." Adding that he, Akiva, and Jorma watched it "like 100 times the week after it aired." From Justin Timberlake's first time hosting in 2003, here's the Barry Gibb Talk Show.
Paul Brittain, Cast Member: Monday Night Football As Paul's pick he chose the Monday Night Football sketch from 10/7/2000 because he "remembers watching this season premiere and Jimmy's Dennis Miller impression is hilarious. Such an unlikely crew to be anchoring Monday Night Football, but this actually happened." From the Rob Lowe hosted season premiere in 2000, enjoy Monday Night Football!
Bonus Backstage Blog Pick: Jeffrey's (Sean Hayes) We here in the Backstage Blog have been spending the past week rewatching all of Jimmy's sketches from his time at SNL and the one that sticks out the most as one of our favorites has got to be the Jeffrey's sketch from the Sean Hayes show. This sketch is so funny that it is one of the ccasions when we totally agree with how much Jimmy is laughing in the scene. From February 17th 2001, here's Jeffrey's!
