With Halloween less than a week away, we here in the Backstage Blog thought we'd celebrate one of SNL's favorite holidays with a week filled with Halloween-themed sketches! And what can help people get motivated into the Halloween spirit more, than Mr. Motivation himself: Matt Foley.

From Christian Slater's 1993 show on the eve of Halloween, enjoy Chris Farley taking it back to that van down by the river:

Now that World Series week is fully upon us, let's take it back to a sketch that centered around the 1994 World Series-less baseball season. Norm MacDonald welcomes Chris Farley to the Update desk to share his totally normal baseball memories in reaction to the 94-95 Baseball Strike. And it is classic Farley all the way.

World Series week continues in the Backstage Blog!! Yesterday we offered some base running advice to the Cardinals and Rangers via Will Ferrell for tonight's Game 1, so today it seemed appropriate to give some tips to the players that are already enjoying the off-season. Perhaps now's the time for Derek Jeter to open up that Taco Hole.

From the December 1st 2001 show hosted by Derek Jeter, why don't we all go to "Derek Jeter's Taco Hole."

Fox & Friends Corrections

Posted October 13, 2011 10:38 AM

The Fox & Friends fact checkers are always hard at work finding all sorts of errors that need to be corrected over the course of the show. Here for your enjoyment is the full list of corrections that ran at the end of the Fox & Friends sketch from last week's Stiller show:

The second president of the United States was John Quincy Adams, not Sam Adams Summer Ale.

A movie and a motion picture are the same thing.

Juice is a drinkable substance.

There are seven continents, not one thousand.

The "West Memphis Three" is not a jazz quartet.

America is not currently under a "Level 9 Liberty Alert." There is no such thing as a "Level 9 Liberty Alert."

Presidential dog "Bo" Obama does not collect Social Security checks, nor is he an undocumented Peruvian housekeeper in disguise.

Julie Andrews is an award winning British actress. She has never been on trial for kidnapping.

Windows are typically made of glass.

President Obama did not pardon Carmen San Diego.

Flu shots prevent influenza and have nothing to do with getting into heaven.

Nancy Pelosi did not appear on an episode of River Monsters.

There is not now, nor has there ever been a plan to air-condition the Grand Canyon.

Herman Cain did not invent pizza.

Christopher Columbus sailed to what is now the modern day United States in an effort to find a trade route to the West Indies. Not to flee the dragons.

No Transformers have ever been found on the moon.

Flo from the Progressive Insurance ads is a living human being, not the ghost of a Civil War widow.

Africa is widely regarded to be the origin of the human species. It was not "discovered only a handful of years ago."

The Jewish Holiday just celebrated was Rosh Hashanah not Rush Hot Bananas.

Nicolas Cage did not sign the Declaration of Independence.

There is no known connection between The Oklahoma City Bombing and the Bay City Rollers.

Electric cars are not powered by electric eagles.

Carrying a child in a Baby Bjorn does not cause homosexuality, in the child or the adult.

The Washington Monument was not named after Denzel Washington. Nor was it named after the Washington Redskins.

The Pope does not hold a world record in speed skating.

Abraham Lincoln is not alive and living in Amish, Pennsylvania. There is no such place as Amish, Pennsylvania.

Mount Rushmore does not include the face of Spiderman.

There are indeed several laws that prohibit pointing a gun at a mail carrier.

Pocahontas was not named after a stripper.

Vermont still exists.

There is currently no bill before the house that would mandate the eating of flan on Thanksgiving.

Mary Magdalene was not eaten by a dinosaur.

General Tso did not win the Civil War for the Confederacy.

Rick Perry was not a contestant on The Amazing Race nor was he the winner of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge.

"Time In A Bottle" was never the national anthem.

Whole Foods does not provide free abortions.

SNL's 36th Birthday!!

Posted October 11, 2011 11:15 AM

On this day 36 years ago, SNL broadcast its first episode ever!! In hindsight it's easy to see that that first show, which was hosted by George Carlin, with music by Janis Ian and Billy Preston, a performance by Andy Kaufman and a cast that included Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner, was the start of something special.

In honor of SNL's "birthday" enjoy the first of George Carlin's monologues from that night. And make sure to check out the 1970's section in the SNL video archive to catch Carlin's 3 other monologues from that show. George Carlin! Four monologues! One show!

Posted October 8, 2011 3:14 PM

One more time before tonight's show, let's take a look at another Stiller Flashback!! And even though this sketch with Chris Parnell and Ana Gasteyer is from 13 years ago, it still holds up, unfortunately, with the current financial times. Comedy burn on us?

Enjoy this sketch from when Stiller hosted on October 24, 1998 with musical guest Alanis Morissette.

Ben Stiller Flashback

Let the Stiller Flashback continue!! This time we take it back to October 24, 1998 when Stiller hosted to promote a little movie called "There's Something About Mary."

Joining Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon and Darrell Hammond in one of the most memorable running sketches of the late 90's, check it out and discover some foods that end in "amburger."

Thanks for the Laughs

Well it's official: as of last night Sarah Palin announced that she will not be pursuing a bid to seek the Republican nomination for presidency in 2012.

So to honor the fun we had with Palin and Tina Fey, enjoy this Palin Cold Open for old time's sake!

Ben Stiller Flashback

Posted October 5, 2011 1:49 PM

A lot of people may not know or remember, but for a brief moment in the late 80's Ben Stiller was actually a cast member here at SNL! In a cast that included Dana Carvey, Nora Dunn, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, and Kevin Nealon, Ben Stiller got his start as a featured player alongside A. Whitney Brown, Al Franken and fellow future movie star, Mike Myers.

Check out this Update Feature pairing Stiller and Myers for a "Rain Man" movie review from Stiller's fourth show in the cast of SNL (hosted by Geena Davis.)

Web Exclusive: Netflix Apology

Posted October 2, 2011 12:38 AM
Last night's show ran a tad long, so the producers had to cut a sketch last minute.

Unfortunately, the sketch was really funny. Fortunately, we're putting it up on the web as an exclusive!

Netflix has made some big business decisions lately that have received a lot of criticism. The guys in charge are addressing those changes, announcing some new ones and apologizing, we think...
