Sam Dobbins

Contestant

Sam Dobbins grew up in Queens, New York. Since age 6 he wanted to be an actor more than anything. Fear of failure kept the dream away until one day he took a leap into his future by taking class with Joanna Beckson (Meisner) along with fellow students Nick Di Paolo (of "The Nick & Artie Show" with Artie Lange) and Mike Sweeney (head writer for Conan O'Brien). After moving to LA he studied with John Kirby (brother of actor Bruno Kirby). It wasn't until Sam signed with manager Cathryn Jaymes (who guided Quentin Tarantino's early career) that Sam began to audition and work in TV and independent films. Cathryn remained Sam's close friend and mentor until she tragically passed away.

Sam pressed on with his vision and worked on many hidden camera shows, developing his great listening and improv skills, which led to "Super Agent Sam Self," which he created with David Egen. Sam and David partnered up with Emmy Award-winning producer Al Burton and shopped the show to various networks, landing at USA Network, who green lit the show for a full season. Sadly, during a shift of USA's executives, the green light turned red, so their show went on the shelf and Sam returned to developing new projects while continuing to audition for acting work.

Sam has worked with James Franco, Michael Rooker ("The Walking Dead"), David Proval (of "The Sopranos" and Martin Scorsese's "Mean Streets") plus many others. Some of Sam's credits include Robert Townsend's "The Five Heartbeats," "The Cosby Show," "NYPD Blue," "Becker" with Ted Danson and PBS's highly successful "Pain & Parking in Los Angeles."

Those who know and work with Sam understand his complete humility and kindness. He always seeks to positively promote others, maintains a unique passion and focus for his craft and is known and respected for his unshakable loyalty. He believes that the stars and planets have come into alignment and that Cathryn Jaymes, his guardian angel, along with his lovely mother Helene, are alongside each other in heaven guiding his career.
