With a reported $18 million in severance, Tony Hayward will walk away from BP this fall. The oil giant's chairman, Carl-Henric Svanberg, tells CNBC that "in order to rebuild our brand and reputation we need fresh leadership." NBC's Michelle Kosinski reports. 

CNBC's Bertha Coombs says that big second quarter losses will give BP an appropriate opportunity to cut ties with troubled CEO Tony Hayward and "close the chapter" on a difficult period in the company's history.
