Episode 13
Learn from Failure
Did no one watch the first season of The Apprentice? ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS meet with your client. Conference calls and other real-time collaboration has its place... when you are not in the same city or when you have an established relationship and are simply maintaining communication i.e. collaborating! Their place is NOT when your client is a half-hour cab ride away. Common mistakes are being repeated.
Once again, this task came down to one team, Magna, who sourced some good information and one team, Net Worth, who didn't and took a wild guess and simply made assumptions. There is a great saying about what happens when you assume...
Other recurring themes: keeping it simple and working with each other. Since most of the show focused on the riff between Kendra and Craig, you may think that I'd be critical of them. But frankly, I've got to give it to Kendra for holding together despite Craig's clear attempts to derail her. Once again, she had a good, simple idea and was somehow able to watch it get to the finish line despite a very negative atmosphere. Tana should also be commended for doing a pretty good job of staying out of the fray. Bottom line: not everyone has to love each other as long as the end product is good... and it was.
Over at Net Worth, it was practically a love fest in comparison. However, they make the same mistakes over and over again. Bren and Alex simply are not learning from past failure and if they don't start, they will soon be done.
I have learned far more in business from my mistakes and failures than I have from my successes. The candidate who figures that out and uses it to their advantage will likely find themselves with a business card with the name TRUMP on it!
Bren, it could have been you or Alex... a real toss-up. When Mr. Trump fired you, it was for a lack of entrepreneurship which, at the end of the day, is all about taking risks, being willing to fail and learning from it when you do. Hopefully you'll learn from this one.
