A Good Plan Today is Better Than the Perfect Plan Tomorrow

Analysis to Paralysis, KISS -Keep It Simple Stupid, Great is the Enemy of Good … you've heard all the business clichés, but the truth is clichés become clichés because they succinctly reveal a nugget of truth. This week's Home Depot task was a great lesson in keeping it simple and charging forward with a good idea rather than over-complicating things by trying to develop the perfect idea.

What is interesting to me is the fact that when it came down to performance time Magna got behind an idea they did not fully support and made it work. To me this is a large part of leadership. True leaders do not require a spotlight every step of the way. True leaders allow others to take the reigns when necessary and roll up their sleeves to support the good of the organization as a whole.

So, once again, some candidates displayed the subtle qualities of leadership while others acted in a completely contrarian way …ERIN. When was the last time you saw anyone in any endeavor praised for giving up, giving in or refusing to participate with a team? Knowing your limits and knowing what you don't know are both good things UNLESS they are used as excuses not to try. What is even more disappointing than Erin's failure to try was her complete ignorance of or refusal to accept why she got fired. It had nothing to do with her lack of knowledge of hardware, construction or Home Depot … it had everything to due with her refusal to learn and to try.

Congratulations to Craig for coming up with the simple idea that worked like gangbusters and to the rest of team Magna, Bren, Tana, Alex and Kendra for executing the idea even though you were unsure of its potential.

Team Net Worth will probably be better off without Erin but Chris has got to learn to control himself - although something tells me that quitting chewing will not make an angry person any less so. Let's just hope that Chris and the rest of Net Worth can come up with a good plan.
