Episode 7
The Candidates are Dogged by Corporate Restructuring
After the boardroom, I am certain that everyone was shocked to get the call from Trump’s office, but they still should have been prepared to go back into the boardroom at a moment’s notice. I always had a casual suit on standby just in case we had to run quickly back to the boardroom or DT decided to “drop in” on us, which he frequently did.
The reshuffle was no surprise since the teams were now on even terms. I was eager to see Wes serve as project manager since he seemed to be positioning himself to be a contender. Jennifer M. chose a perfect task to serve as project manager. During the restructuring of the teams, the PM has the ability to shape the future of the game.
DT gave a very interesting spin to the restructuring. Last season he allowed the PM to choose the individuals that they wanted to work with. This season he instructed the PM to pick the team members that they did not want to work with. It had to be terribly painful to be given up by your teammates. But hey, it’s not personal – it’s just business.
After the selections, the new teams really reflected the alliances that have formed during the show. The PMs did not necessarily choose the strongest players for the team. They selected people whom they liked and could get along with.
It became clear to the male members of Mosaic that Stacy R. was going to be a nuisance. She appeared to just keep going and going and going, but she may have been trying to establish that she was going to be a force to be reckoned with. She should have spent more time listening to her new project manager and building rapport with her new teammates as opposed to annoying them.
Once the teams learned that they would be responsible for creating a dog service, they quickly got busy trying to formulate a winning strategy. Wes decided that his team would wash dogs and call them “doggie makeovers”?? The sympathy vote already went to Kevin during one of the earlier tasks where they donated proceeds to a charity. In a game where the results come down to the cent, it is important to invest every penny and to be strategic about what you do with the winnings.
My heart went out to Andy when he lost the cell phone. He instantly knew that he would be brought into the boardroom for that critical error. I am sure that Andy considered this as his team struggled through the day without proper communication.
Jennifer M. decided that Apex would also wash dogs. Jennifer was very effective at keeping her team motivated throughout the task. She also led by example and served as one of the primary dog washers for her team. Raj provided his usual pessimistic commentary. I am sure that he feels that he is stating the obvious, but it is also important to give an idea a chance to work before shooting it down.
The best idea award goes to Stacy R. when she suggested that the team use the Polaroid camera to take pictures of the dogs. I knew she was on to something. As a pet owner and lover, I am sure that this idea would have been a big hit. I fault Stacy for not convincing her teammates to adopt her idea. I also feel that Wes should have given her idea full consideration prior to going against it.
I think the Trooper Award should go to Kevin who washed, clipped and handled dogs all day. He did so with a pleasant disposition and he rarely complained. He demonstrated that he was a true team player.
Team Apex went to enjoy a meal at one of New York’s restaurants. This allowed the team to bond and to ponder their impending win or defeat. I remember fondly going to all of the different restaurants and clubs during the taping of the first season. Although there is limited downtime on the show, the candidates get to enjoy some of the great amenities of the city during their stay in Trump Tower.
During the task resolution, the teams discovered that Apex was victorious and would spend time with the mayor of New York City. This was one of my favorite rewards since it involved my two favorite qualities, a prominent political figure and an esteemed businessman.
Mosaic had to face DT, Carolyn and Allen (George was out that day). The team did their normal bickering, which led to Wes’s selection of Andy and Stacy R. to face Trump. When are these folks going to learn that Trump hates when everyone gangs up on one of his favorites? I feel that Trump likes Andy and admires the way he defends himself in the boardroom. Nonetheless, Andy, Wes and Stacy R. had to fight for their existence in the boardroom. Stacy R. really had no chance once Carolyn’s claws came out. Carolyn basically told Stacy R. that she did nothing during the whole task.
Trump has a long list of things he hates: exaggeration, making excuses (which I learned from Season 1) and complaining. As a result, he gave Stacy R. the axe. Stacy R. was so upset that she dissed the guys as they tried to give a cordial good-bye. Their expressions seemed to say, “Stacy, don’t go away mad… just go away”.
