What is your definition of success?
Success is about being passionate, confident, and above all it's about being honest about whom you are. Success encompasses surrounding yourself with friends and family that you can truly count on. It is about taking charge of your own destiny, setting high standards for yourself, and going to bed at night feeling like your existence is meaningful.
Who do admire both personally and professionally?
I admire my parents. They are hard working immigrants from Portugal who came to America for a better opportunity. They were courageous, high-spirited entrepreneurs who worked tooth and nail to provide a better life for my brother and I. My mother and father set the standard for my success, and I will forever be truly grateful for that. My parents taught me to never spend more than I earn, to take control of my destiny, and to always remember whom and I am where I came from.
What did you learn from the last season of The Apprentice?
To fight for your life! Business is cut throat. To stay in the competition you must take the bull by the horns, be a risk taker, and definitely think outside the box.
What has been your biggest challenge in the
pursuit of your career goals?
Personally I have had to overcome many stereotypes.
At the age of 21 when I purchased my business,
I soon noticed that it was difficult for men in
the bridal industry to take me seriously. I was
a young feisty career driven female who wouldn't
take "no" for an answer. By continuously pushing
the envelope I was able to make a name for myself
and emerge to become the successful businesswoman
that I am today.
If you had a super power, what would it be and why?
I wish that I had the power to control time. Time is the most precious catalyst to decision-making and success. There are moments in life when I would love to travel back in time to re-live a great moment or alter a decision that I had to make. I would love the ability to stop time and look in to the future. As they say, isn't it all about good timing?
