WORM & ROACH BLENDER

What's grosser than eating a couple of worms and cockroaches? Eating a whole bunch of worms and cockroaches that have been blended together into a disgusting, foul-smelling shake. Fear Factor contestant George Pappas tells what it's like when Joe Rogan turns on the blender.

FEAR FACTOR: So you walk up and you find out you're going to be taking four basketball shots to determine how many glasses of blended worms and cockroaches you will have to drink. What was your initial thought?

GEORGE PAPPAS: My initial thought when I saw the worms and cockroaches was just of disbelief. I'm not a big consumer of those types of products, and I was not happy to, uh, engage in that type of activity.

FEAR FACTOR: Had you ever done anything like that before? Have you ever eaten anything nasty?

GEORGE PAPPAS: I've never eaten anything nasty such as that before. I was in a fraternity in college, and nothing I did there could have prepared me for what I was about to face.

FEAR FACTOR: How nasty did it look when Joe was blending up the worms and roaches? How nasty did it smell?

GEORGE PAPPAS: When Joe was making that concoction, the milkshake, or whatever you want to call it, it was just disgusting. Red worms, super worms, those Madagascar cockroaches. It was just vile. And watching him dumping all these elements into the blender to blend them up just made my stomach churn. I wasn't looking forward to it, and the smell just reeked. It almost smelled as if it was vomit, and that's what I was going to have to drink. And I just was having a tough time just even visualizing taking it down.

FEAR FACTOR: Do you have a weak stomach or a strong stomach?

GEORGE PAPPAS: I'm pretty particular about what I eat. I wouldn't say I have a weak stomach, per se, but in this instance I didn't know how strong it was going to be.

FEAR FACTOR: Okay, so Joe puts the drink in front of you.

GEORGE PAPPAS: Joe handed me the drink, and I was trying to visualize a chocolate milkshake. That's kind of what it looked like. But, uh, unbeknownst to me, it tasted disgusting. It had wings, legs, shells, probably eyeballs and guts, and just to take all that down was just so unnerving.

FEAR FACTOR: Did you have a strategy in place?

GEORGE PAPPAS: I'm not a big chug kind of a guy, so I just started sipping it. Joe made a crack that it was like a fine Bordeaux or something of that nature, and, um, it definitely wasn't. It was chunky, and basically I was just trying to focus on just sipping it down, sip by sip by sip, just getting it down, getting it down. That's all I could think about was just, "One sip at a time, one sip at a time. Don't try to force yourself. Just consume it, get it down, don't throw up, and just keep going."

FEAR FACTOR: Did there ever come a time where you thought you'd never be able to get through it?

GEORGE PAPPAS: I was struggling. The first glass was basically just a matter of will. After the second one, I didn't think I could do it anymore. I was doubting myself and somewhere, somehow, I just dug down deep and found my strength on the third one. I just focused on this light bulb in the back of the room, and just kept my eyes focused on that and didn't even pay attention to what it tasted like. The worm and cockroach milkshake was probably one of the hardest things I've ever done.
