Every so often, a Fear Factor contestant tells us they'll be traumatized for life after getting through a particularly horrifying stunt. That's exactly how Chandra Meissner felt after downing 10 live slugs and a shot of cow bile.
FEAR FACTOR: So tell us what it was like downing all those slimy slugs and that shot of cow bile.
CHANDRA MEISSNER: The first slug that I put in my mouth, I popped it in and I was like, "Oh, my gosh, this is only one and I have nine more to go after this." I hadn't even started chewing it or even swallowing it. I felt it move around in my mouth and that just disgusted me. The slime was just building up and building up. And I found that, after I was popping my fifth one in, the pieces of it would get stuck in the slime that was in my mouth. So I was having a hard time swallowing it. So then I just started doing a different strategy.
FEAR FACTOR: And what was that different strategy?
CHANDRA MEISSNER: This is so disgusting: I took two hard bites into it and then I felt the juice come out of the slug. And that was the juice that helped me throw it back in the back of my mouth. I would just push it in the back of my mouth and swallow. But then I got down to the very last one, the big one, and it was like biting into a rubber ball. It was just disgusting and it took forever to chew and get that one down. It was awful.
FEAR FACTOR: Why did you save the big slug for last?
CHANDRA MEISSNER:If I would have done the big one first, I don't think I would have been able to make the whole challenge because of how much juice came out of him and how much stuff was left in my mouth afterwards.
FEAR FACTOR: What did it taste like?
CHANDRA MEISSNER: I've honestly never tasted anything like it. I was having a tough time with my gag reflex. I gag when I brush my teeth in the morning and at night. I'm surprised I didn't gag more.
FEAR FACTOR: So what did you think of the cow bile?
CHANDRA MEISSNER: Well, when I got to the last slug, I thought, "The bile is going to probably just help push some of that slime out of my mouth." And I was honestly looking forward to the bile, but when I put the bile up to my mouth, it tasted like a chemical. Almost like a bleach or something. It made things almost worse. If I would have had to do another shot of bile I would have been done. I almost did throw up after I put the bile down.
FEAR FACTOR: So how did you feel right after you downed all the slugs and the bile?
CHANDRA: After I finished the whole event I didn't feel any better than when I was eating the slugs because I still had the slime in my mouth. I was being asked questions and I couldn't talk because I couldn't open my mouth the whole way. You can't imagine how thick it was and how sticky it was. It was like glue in my mouth.
FEAR FACTOR: You think you'll ever be able to put this stunt out of your mind?
CHANDRA: Eating slugs will haunt me for a long time. I think it will be in the back of my head every time I sit down and have a plate of food. I think if we went on to my third stunt and we had to eat slugs again, I don't think I could ever do that again. Oh my gosh, that would just be torture! I just think that was the most disgusting thing in the whole world.
