At Fear Factor we get some of the toughest men and women in the country competing to win the $50,000 prize. But no matter how strong, fit or determined they are, worms can still be pretty hard to swallow. Here's contestant Misty Chappell to share her Fear Factor worm-eating experience.
FEAR FACTOR: Were you nervous when you first learned that you'd have to eat nightcrawlers on the show?
MISTY CHAPPELL: At first, I wasn't scared at all. I wasn't worried. I thought I was going to do that so easily. But I had to go first, so that sucked. I didn't want to have to go first.
FEAR FACTOR: So how did it feel when you actually put the nightcrawlers in your mouth?
MISTY CHAPPELL: It was so gross. I mean it was just nasty. It was just completely nasty. Yuck - that's all I could think. I had worm s--t in my teeth and I was like, "Gross!" I was just spitting and spitting, and spitting and spitting.
FEAR FACTOR: What was your strategy for getting the worms down?
MISTY CHAPPELL: I just put all of them in my mouth. I had a mouthful of stuff and I was chewing and I couldn't swallow because it was so much. I would have choked. I kept gagging and I kept chewing and they were still moving and they weren't dying.
FEAR FACTOR: Did you think you wouldn't be able to swallow them?
MISTY CHAPPELL: I had such a mouthful! Joe should have been doing the Heimlich maneuver on me. There were so many in my mouth. They just kept moving around my mouth. I was about to throw up everywhere.
FEAR FACTOR: So what brought you to Fear Factor in the first place?
MISTY CHAPPELL: I'm real competitive. I like challenging myself. I'm the kind of girl that wants to spit further, run faster, and throw harder than any of the guys out there.
FEAR FACTOR: Would you consider yourself a tomboy?
MISTY CHAPPELL: I'm the South Georgia, barefooted, tough, rough, ready-to-get-out-there-and-kick-some-ass kinda girl. I surf, kayak, hike, bike, hunt, fish, jog, aerobics; I do a little bit of everything.
FEAR FACTOR: Looking back, what was your reaction when you first found out you were going to be a contestant on "Fear Factor"?
MISTY CHAPPELL: At first, I was really excited, and then the next week I'm like, "Oh my God, I can't do that -- I don't eat worms!"
