SOAP CHAT Creator and Host Ashley S. Battel is joined by some of the industry's hottest soap opera stars for the 2002 Soap Chat Viewers Choice Awards Cyber-Ceremony, held on December 8, 2002! Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the 2002 Soap Chat Viewers Choice Awards online cyber-ceremony. My name is Ashley S. Battel, and I, along with the assistance of our Sysop Laura Loe, have the good fortune of serving as your host for this evening's live Soap Chat event! While you won't see me riding on a horse with Garry Shandling into the sunset this evening as Conan did on the Primetime Emmys, I hope to make this evening as fun and enjoyable as possible for you :)!

From the return of some of our favorite stars to some of the most captivating and compelling story twists and turns in recent memory, the past year has been yet another memorable one for the daytime industry. Amidst all of the cyber-glamour and glitz of the evening (this Ralph Lauren cyber-tux cost a fortune, but it was well worth it :) ), we, the online soap opera community, are gathered here this evening to celebrate the shows, stars and storylines that have moved us to laughter...to tears...to elation; in other words, to emote...to feel! And 'emotion' will be a key word of this evening's proceedings, as we take part in this special evening that honors those who continue to keep us captivated five days a week in a medium that brings millions some of the best entertainment that the world has to offer: Daytime television!

Over 23,000 members of our global online soap opera community gathered together this summer to vote in 20 categories pertaining to their favorite actors, shows and storylines. Due to a shift in the timing of our awards ceremony this year, the nominee eligiblity period was an extended one, lasting from Jan. 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002. From that voting period emerged a list of Top 5 Finalists within each of those categories.

Tonight, we will find out who topped those lists, and who will become the recipients of this year's awards. You will also have the opportunity to chat live with some of our favorite daytime stars, and hear from many of our award winners! So, let's get started as we begin the 2002 Soap Chat Viewers Choice Awards Cyber-Ceremony:
