Sami Brady tricked Austin Reed into believing he was the father of her son, Will. When Austin learned the truth he was furious...but he remained tied to Sami as a result of his love for Will. Eventually, Austin forgave Sami and much to Sami's delight, the two actually embarked on a romance! But when Austin wouldn't help Sami in her plan to get custody of Will, she turned to Brandon Walker...who developed unrequited feelings for Sami. With Brandon's help, Sami did, indeed, get custody of her son. Sami finally had everything she ever wanted-Will and Austin! In fact, Sami's dream came true when she and Austin became engaged.
However, Sami's dreams soon began to crash around her. Will desperately wanted Sami to take him to visit his father, Lucas (who has been in a coma for months). Sami was dead-set against this idea, since Lucas once conspired with his mother, Kate, to send Sami to death row! Austin made Sami promise that she would take Will to visit Lucas. Sami had no intention of following through with her promise, but she had no choice when Austin came home with plane tickets! At the same time, Kate traveled to the rehab center to enlist Lucas's help to eliminate Sami from their lives. Sami was furious when they ran into Kate at the rehab center, and the two were immediately at one another's throats. Kate was thrilled when Will's presence caused Lucas to stir. Sami was horrified by this turn of events-she had hoped Lucas would remain in a coma forever.
Austin, Sami, and Will left the rehab center, leaving Kate behind with Lucas. Much to Kate's delight, her son opened his eyes! Kate brought Lucas back to Salem...and moved him into Austin's apartment across the hall from Sami's apartment. Austin begged Sami to give Lucas another chance, but Sami refused. She went behind Austin's back and blackmailed Victor into transferring Austin to Hawaii-all so Sami, Austin, and Will could move far away from Kate and Lucas. Sami believed everything was going to be okay when Austin agreed to fly to Vegas and get married right away. She was thrilled when her friends and family agreed to join the couple.
Unfortunately for Sami, Kate and Lucas also flew to Vegas. Just as her wedding to Austin was about to begin, Lucas showed up at Sami's door and attempted to make peace. Sami refused. At the same time, Austin overheard Victor telling Kate that Sami had blackmailed him. A furious Austin hightailed it to Sami's room, where he overheard her telling Lucas all about her previous lies. Austin couldn't believe how wrong he'd been about Sami. Despite her pleas not to leave her, Austin dumped Sami once and for all...and left her to explain everything to her friends and family! Now that Austin has left her, Sami has once again set her sights back on Brandon. But Brandon has made it clear that he has moved on.
