Jennifer Horton and Jack Deveraux finally put the past behind them and once again tied the knot, much to the delight of their daughter Abby. The newlyweds even joined together for a business venture, their very own talk show!
However Jack, a reporter at heart, soon grew tired of the talk show scene. He decided it was time to make Jennifer proud-- by winning a Pulitzer Prize. Jack began investigating the DiMeras, as well as the murder of Colin Murphy. Jennifer knew that these investigations could be dangerous, and begged Jack to end his involvement...especially since Jennifer's beloved grandmother Alice was having so many premonitions of danger! Jennifer was even more alarmed when Jack asked her uncle Mickey, a lawyer, to help revise his will. Jack refused to give up on his stories, but promised Jennifer he would be careful.
Unfortunately, Jennifer had every reason to be worried. Alone in an alley while pursuing his story, the Salem Stalker attacked Jack! Jack survived the attack, but the doctors declared him brain dead. Jennifer was forced to make the hardest decision of her life when she was reminded that Jack was an organ donor. After searching her soul, Jennifer decided to pull the plug so that Jack would be able to help others, as he wanted to do. Abby was devastated by Jennifer's decision.
On Christmas, Jennifer received a Christmas miracle when she learned that she was pregnant with Jack's baby! Unfortunately, she soon learned that there were complications with the pregnancy and that she might not live if she carried the baby to term. But Jennifer refused to give up on this gift from Jack and made the decision to carry the pregnancy to term.
As it turned out Jack was alive and being held on Captive Island. After her plane went down, Jennifer arrived on the island and was reunited with her husband.
Jack was not the only member of the Horton family to be killed by the Salem Stalker. Marlena also claimed the lives of Maggie, Doug and Alice. The Horton family grieved for their losses, but unbeknownst to the living all of the dead are really being held on Captive Island.
Since Maggie was murdered, Bonnie Lockhart has set her sights on Mickey. She believes he would be the perfect person to bankroll her dream of a country western bar! Mickey's niece, Julie, was not happy to see how Bonnie has moved in on Mickey and has loudly raised her objections. But Julies disapproval has not stopped Mickey and Bonnie from growing very close.
