Cause of death: Knife wound to heart
Physical Evidence:
- Knife impaled in victim's chest
- No defensive wounds
- Superficial cuts on chest
Analysis/Lab Work:
- Tox screen negative
- CT Scan revealed third, left rib nicked twice and splicing defect of rib and heart
Conclusions: Lack of defensive wounds and superficial cuts indicate suicide. However, nicked rib and splicing defect of heart point toward homicide. Final conclusion: victim committed suicide but a second person reinserted knife into victim's chest, postmortem.
