Steele's afterthoughts August 3rd
Who did you feel most connected to during the competition?
It was between Kym, Dawn and Erica - all were really great girls that all know how to have a great time. Erica was a surprise; I didn't think I would get along with her too well but I was way off base on that assumption.
What behavior surprised you the most from the other contestants?
Some guys were a lot different when the cameras weren't on.
Any fun anecdotes or run-ins with nature you'd like to share?
Honestly got paranoid at times when we were cruising through dense forest for hours in the first episode. Saw a lot of poisonous frogs and was always afraid that a damn snake was going to jump out of nowhere. Also wanna give a shout out to Bob the sloth and Andy the armadillo; they were the true ballers on the show.
What did you learn about yourself through this experience?
That I really do have a true hate for canoes. Before I went on the show I thought I did; now I know I do! Also learned how few jungle skills I have acquired living in Park City and Scottsdale over the years... I was about as effective as a blind surgeon out there at times.
Why did you decide to take part in this show?
Being offered a chance to travel, meet some good-looking women, and do things I probably would have never had the chance to do was a no brainer.
Would you call yourself an outdoorsy person? Why or why not?
Yes I grew up in Park City, Utah which is a very outdoorsy town, people there are very active. I have also played outdoor sports my whole life. I was a ski racer for a long time and now I'm a golfer.
What is your biggest fear or phobia?
Don't have one big phobia but I will say that clowns can get a bit sketchy from time to time.
What surprised you most about being in the jungle?
Shocked me to see how many bugs are on steroids out there! Every bug is like two to four times the size they usually are in the States (at least where I'm from).
What was the hardest thing for you to live without? What did you miss the most?
Music was probably the thing I missed most. Also missed not having 4,000 different types of birds doing their mating call every morning from 5:00 to 7:30! Was impossible to sleep in.
What would other people say are your best qualities?
Probably my ability to make any situation fun and my ability to be a loyal friend.
Describe the worst date you've ever been on.
Took a girl out to a nice restaurant once, she started pretty much pounding wine and got absolutely hammered. She then started cussing out the waiter for no reason, at that point I introduced her to my friend discount cab and haven't talked to her since.
What qualities do you find to be most important in your partner?
I like really confident women that are comfortable in their own skin and have the ability to have fun in pretty much any situation. Also I can't stand women that are boring with no sense of humor. Not looking for the good old trophy girl.
Describe your ideal date.
Start off with something fun and competitive like go-carting or mini golf - something of that nature. Then hit a nice lounge or restaurant for some good wine and better conversation. Love wine bars with live jazz.
What was it like sharing a cabin with a total stranger?
It was definitely unexpected but I was cool with it. I was able to get pretty comfortable with my partner pretty quickly.
