Peter's afterthoughts July 6th

Who did you feel most connected to during the competition?
Dawn. She's beautiful inside and out. She's the kind of girl that's got it all. The man that ends up with her is a lucky guy.

What behavior surprised you the most from the other contestants?
Apparently people were making alliances; I think they got their shows confused.

Any fun anecdotes or run-ins with nature you'd like to share?
I almost lost my shoes in the first 10 minutes of the adventure. Everyone else wore trail shoes, but I wore my white vans with no socks! Almost a disaster. When me and Teresa banked our raft, I stepped in to some really deep sand. I could feel the shoes slipping off so I had to kinda roll out. They were really slippery in the mud too. Both vans made it to the end, but they are a completely different color now. I still have them as a keepsake.

Also on the home stretch, it was really muddy but I found the perfect walking stick in the path. My grandpa is a wildlife biologist and always has a good walking stick in the woods. I just picked it up because it reminded me of him. Which turned out to be a big move because I would have ended up on all fours in the mud without it. I tried to not use the bathroom in the cabana too often. It's not like you can just fart if you have to fart, you have to walk outside your cabana, especially with all the beans, rice and coffee we were eating!

What did you learn about yourself through this experience?
I can find something good in most people and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but it's probably best to not make a quick call on anyone.

Why did you decide to take part in this show?
I've always thought of myself as a long-term relationship guy, but seem to be perpetually single, I hoped to figure it out on this show.

Would you call yourself an outdoorsy person? Why or why not?
I'm kind of outdoorsy, there's three wildlife biologists on my mom's side of the family, so I grew up around crabbing, fishing, and hunting. My grandfather's work restoring the deer population is renowned in the South Carolina low country.  But I'm faux outdoorsy because I live in LA and teach surfing for a living... oh and I spent my first year in LA in a teepee in a back yard, so that's kind of outdoorsy too.

What is your biggest fear or phobia?
I dread small talk. It can be hard to get on a roll with new people. If there's not some obvious common ground, I get awkward quick.
What surprised you most about being in the jungle?
I was surprised how loud the bugs were at night, it was pretty hard to sleep with all the chirping, must have been mating season?

What was the hardest thing for you to live without?
What did you miss the most? Privacy, literally feels like you are being scrutinized 24/7, it's hard to relax.

What would other people say are your best qualities?
I'm good natured and easy to get along with.

Describe the worst date you've ever been on.
Anytime a friend's girlfriend has tried to set me up it's usually a red flag to run... all my friends' chicks are nuts.

What qualities do you find to be most important in your partner?
Happy, enthused, kinda smart, kinda cool.

Describe your ideal date.
Bottle of wine, starry night.

What was it like sharing a cabin with a total stranger?
It's really challenging being trapped with someone new even if you are getting along.  If you like them, you are trying not to mess up... if you don't like them it becomes an endurance test. I def got yelled at for leaving the toilet seat up.
