Hometown: San Diego, CA; resides in Los Angeles, CA
Melissa Alatorre is a San Diego native who is looking for a guy who is ready to commit. Her secret weapon is her piercing green eyes, which she says men have a hard time resisting. Don't underestimate the pint-sized Alatorre; she is incredibly competitive and is not afraid to go after the guy she wants.
Alatorre, a media and entertainment professional, attended San Diego State University.
Whom did you feel most connected to during the competition?
When it comes to the guys, I felt absolutely connected to NO ONE. Me and the other five "surprise" girls had a strong connection immediately because of the fact that we had all been placed in the same awkward situation together.
Ultimately, are you happy the additional contestants were brought in to mix it up?
Being that I was one of the extra contestants, I would have to say it was pretty exciting at first to come in as the new girl and watch the other girls freak out for a little, but then it turned out we were more at a disadvantage because we didn't have as much time to spend with the rest of the cast and form meaningful relationships like everyone else did.
What behavior surprised you the most from the other contestants?
The level of immaturity from some of the older contestants. Being the youngest cast member, I was surprised to see how childish someone was capable of acting, especially at age 33, but hey maybe that's the reason behind why they're still single right?
What was your favorite challenge and why?
I was only given the opportunity to compete in one adventure, so I'll take that one as my favorite!
Was there anything off-screen that you feel the audience missed out on?
I believe the audience misses out on A LOT of action behind the scenes; but I think mine and Tara's conversations before going to bed are something I would want to share with everyone. We really bonded while sleeping in the lean-to.
Any fun anecdotes or run-ins with nature you'd like to share?
Sleeping in the lean-to, me and Tara would fall asleep and wake up spraying bug spray but we would still get eaten alive.
What did you learn about yourself through this experience?
I am a lot less high maintenance than people give me credit for!
Why did you decide to take part in this show?
It was an opportunity of a lifetime that not many people can say they will ever get the chance to experience, so how could I not pass it up!
Would you call yourself an outdoorsy person? Why or why not?
I'm definitely not afraid of roughin' it in the outdoors. Growing up in San Diego, I spent much of my childhood camping with my family at local beaches and reservations so I learned to love and appreciate the beauty of the outdoors.
What are you afraid of?
I am deathly afraid of being alone in the dark... even if it is in my own home, I am still very much petrified. Oh, and cockroaches.
What surprised you most about being in the jungle?
How vicious the mosquitoes were... after day one, my arms looked like I had a bad case of the chickenpox and they just kept getting worse every day.
What was the hardest thing for you to live without? What did you miss the most?
The privacy of your own bedroom/bathroom. Living outside was nice at first but after a while you want time for yourself away from everyone, a hot shower, and a bathroom that you don't have to share with multiple people.
What would other people say are your best qualities?
That I seem to always have a positive outlook on life no matter how bad things may get from time to time. I don't like to waste my time on negativity.
Describe the worst date you've ever been on.
In college, it seemed to be the routine "first date" to go over to the guy's house to watch a movie with him along with the rest of his frat house while drinking cheap beer. I had my good share of those and they were all by far the worst dates I have ever been on.
What qualities do you find to be most important in your partner?
Someone who is trustworthy and respectful. I should never have to doubt your integrity and you should always treat me the same no matter where/who we're around.
Describe your ideal date.
As long as we enjoy each other's company and are able to carry on a conversation without any awkward moments, that's all I need for a date to be perfect.
