We had a very special guest star in the season premiere of SVU, but if you're not from the New York tri-state area, you might not have realized just how special she is. If you have lived around New York City at any time in the last 32, then you know her well: Sue Simmons, local WNBC news anchor from 1980 until last June, when her contract was not renewed. Lucky for us, that meant Sue was available for her acting debut... playing herself. Now, we've had pretty big stars on the show, but I've never seen our crew so excited by a guest actor before, lining up to shake her hand, take a photo with her, or just express how much they loved watching her every night on channel 4. For those who grew up with her, like me, Sue Simmons is synonymous with local news. And the love from the public was apparent, too--in between almost every shot, passersby near the courthouse came over to say hello to Sue, and she happily and graciously greeted every one of them, often exchanging anecdotes about particular news stories they both remembered.
So thanks to Sue Simmons, for a flawless performance--we hope to have her back again, assuming you loved her as much as we did! And if you didn't get enough of her in the premiere, do a little googling for some career highlights... try "Sue Simmons groundhog impression" to start.
