Law and Order: SVU

RETURNS THIS FALL WEDNESDAYS 9/8c

Whether the Weather...

The team in the writers' room spends much of its time indoors: plotting, pitting, editing,
thinking, chatting and, hopefully, writing. Which is why days that we get to go on location and
spend some time outdoors can be appealing.

Indeed, while shooting "Lost Traveler," we spent several days in Staten Island and out in
Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On some of those days, the weather was naturally balmier than on
others, and those days are always the pleasant ones to be working on set. When the weather
permits, being on set is arguably the best perk of the job.

And then there are evenings spent outside in the dark and the cold, in the woods, with a pack of
goats and dogs. Hanging around the goat pen especially, although rather cute, smelled exactly
like you imagine it would.

Then as the late afternoon drifted into evening, writer David Matthews and I watched the frost
progressively form on the slightly muddy ground beneath our feet. If anything, I for one learned
a good lesson in bundling up: when the production crew warns you it's gonna get cold, take
their advice and wear enough layers. But it's not so much that we were freezing per se; it's that
the forming frost promised that, in fact, the cold is only just beginning, that the coldest has yet
to come. And I'll be sure to report back from set during the snowy outdoor location days that
January and February will certainly offer.

With all that being said, knowing the quality of the work that SVU puts out every week and the
top-notch fans that follow, each chill and shiver is absolutely, completely 100% worth it.

Wednesday night at 10/9c airs "Lost Traveler," with a host of very talented guest stars, who
were just as pleasant to meet and work with as they are fantastic to watch on screen.

And be sure to keep an eye out for the goat scene!
