A child is kidnapped. The SVU detectives, at first, theorize this is a custody battle gone wrong. When that doesn't pan out, their attentions turn to a murder in a grocery store, close to where the child was taken. A store worker, wounded during the crime, tells Benson and Stabler that a homeless man who worked in the store was his attacker and the kidnapper of the boy. The homeless man turns out to be a schizophrenic who deludely believes the child is own son.
