In the blink of an eye, Brea Grant's career has been put on the fast track. After a memorable stint on the drama Friday Night Lights, the extremely amiable actress is further gaining momentum with the coveted role of speedster Daphne Millbrook on the highly anticipated third season of Heroes. Luckily for us, she slowed down long enough to talk about running into heroes and villains, joining the talented Heroes cast, and why Daphne deserves the title of fastest woman alive!
HEROES MAGAZINE: In the beginning, what was your sense of who Daphne was and what made her tick?
BREA GRANT: Daphne has been on her own for a long time and her power is super-speed. She's a thief and uses her power for what some people might call evil... but it's probably what she would call fun, and she's not really hurting anyone. Daphne believes she can do whatever she wants. In the series, she meets all these people who are doing other things with their powers, so she has to deal with this whole good versus evil argument that she's never considered before. As for what makes her tick, she's all about having fun and a good time, but there's a lot going on with her that is not so obvious. Viewers will discover there are some deeper parts to Daphne that aren't apparent when you first meet her.

Part of what makes Heroes so addictive are the characters' flaws and relationships. Are we going to get a glimpse into Daphne's personal life?
Yes, it is going to take a little time for her to open that part of herself up. She's a loner and is not the kind of girl who is going to tell you about her life story on the first date. She definitely has her own fears and a back-story the wonderful writers have created.
Did they outline the extent of Daphne's powers and limitations for you?
Not really. They designed it so that when she runs, she leaves a wake behind her. You may not even see her, but she blows everything aside. I went the comic route and looked at all the fast characters when I got this. They are all about as fast as each other. Maybe the Flash is a little faster than some of the other ones, so I looked at him for how fast Daphne should be. It's pretty hard to stop her at all.
What makes Daphne a good foil for Hiro?
Well, Hiro can stop time, so it's a great pairing because they cancel each other out. As soon as Hiro uses his power, Daphne can no longer move as quickly, but she can still go at regular speed. They both sort of lose what advantage they have over everyone else as soon as they cross each other's path. They spend the next few episodes trying to trick each other. It's pretty funny and a good matching of wits.
As one of the fresh faces on the series, how welcoming was the Heroes set on your first day?
It was actually really nice because Tim Kring was there and Allan Arkush was directing. They were there to help me and gave me their input for the character. Masi is just the nicest guy in the world. He and I got to play a lot before they started filming and we came up with ideas and figured out ways to deal with each other. For my very first scene, we were rehearsing and all of a sudden, I looked up and there were 50 people watching us, including news outlets, producers, and crew. I remember thinking this is the most nerve-racking thing I have ever done in my life.
Is it too early to have a favorite Daphne moment?
There is a really good scene in the two-hour premiere where we're in Daphne's loft. You get to see how she lives, and she has 100 pairs of shoes because Daphne goes through a pair a day from running so fast. Then you get to see all the stuff she's stolen, so there's gold and jewelry all over. That's my favorite scene because you get to see some of Daphne's background.
