The Job Interview

"What I'm about to tell you..." I start. "I realize how it's going to sound. I also know what the official account said, which wasn't much, and definitely not this."

The interviewer stares at me blankly. He really is a bland-looking guy. I don't think I could walk out of this room and describe him.

"Ms. Mills," the man says. "We expect the truth."

"I'm telling the truth."

"Then warnings are not necessary."

"Just remember you said that," I say.
