The Dam

"Suddenly, this seems like a really bad idea," the Primatech contractor says.

Ten minutes ago, you were holding each other at gunpoint in an Alaskan forest as your employers -- Primatech and Pinehearst -- fought a brutal gunfight nearby over in the Kill Squad's headquarters. Then you learned the truth: the Kill Squad is about to blow up a dam outside town. The wall of water will wipe out their headquarters and hundreds of Pinehearst and Primatech's best personnel.

So now you and your new partner stand in a tiny control shed on the end of the dam, staring unhappily at four closed-circuit camera displays.

In the one labeled "Generator Room," you can see a room inside the dam. Water roars through conduits and spinning machinery. In the corner, you can see Red Eye and Anna. They're arguing.

Next, "Maintenance Chamber": a large, dark room next to the Generator Room. There is a group of dam workers hiding here, armed with pipes and tools.

"Upper Deck ": the top of the dam. There are a dozen Kill Squad soldiers patrolling here. You can see their truck waiting on the far end of the dam.

"Water intake": a row of giant grills in the water on the back side of the dam, just below the upper deck. Ice covers much of the lake, but in the open patches of water around the grills, four men in wetsuits are tying bulky packages to the water intake: high explosives.

"This is about to go downhill fast, no pun intended," your partner says. "If those workers jump Red Eye and Anna, things will get nuts. If Red Eye jumps those soldiers, things will also get nuts. And if we don't defuse that bomb, the town below will be wiped out, including, I might add, some of the people paying our paychecks."

"Yeah, yeah, death and destruction," you say. "So, is pessimism a job requirement over at Primatech?"

"More like an occupational hazard. Let's get this rolling."
