RACHEL MILLS was born in Newport, Rhode Island, but raised in Calabasas, California. With Rachel's father absent in her youth, Leona Mills raised her daughter until she was 12 - at which point Leona committed suicide. Rachel then moved in with her grandparents, struggling through her teenage years with little money and few friends. Wearing her heart on her sleeve, it became evident that Rachel's emotions were both her strongest suit and her biggest flaw.
After graduating high school, Rachel went into the Marines, following in her grandfather's footsteps. In 2008, after four years abroad between Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pinehearst Corporation recruited Rachel as one of 50 marines chosen for a top-secret operation.
