Bad Moon Rising really should have been called Bad Hank Rising; but seriously, we just couldn't bear to see him go through any more mental anguish. It was time for Hank to come into the Grimm loop, so to speak. The difficult part about bringing him in was finding a viable way for him to accept something so unbelievable. Even though Nick and Hank have such a close relationship, we felt a little something extra was needed in order for him to bridge the gap. The introduction of Hank's longtime friend, Jarold Kampfer, and Hank's goddaughter, Carly Kampfer, provided that added cushion. Played by the talented Maddie Hasson, Carly's presence additionally allowed for a commentary on the burden placed on Wesen in their normal, or Kehrseite, relationships.

In our third and final installment of "Briar Rose" we were finally able to shed some light on the otherwise mysterious Captain Renard. Along with revealing his pseudo-creature nature, we were able to further establish and introduce his brother, Eric Renard, played by the talented James Frain. It was extremely difficult killing off the reoccurring character Catherine, played by the equally talented Jessica Tuck, but given Kelly's blood lust coupled with Catherine's inherently evil nature, there seemed little room for compromise. We felt it would have been too much introducing a new creature into this episode and were more than content focusing on Nick and Kelly putting an end to the terror that was the Mauvais Dentes.

Our main intention in "Bad Teeth" was to sift through the can of worms we opened up at the end of Season 1; really the only way to do that was to pick up exactly where we left off. The themes we borrowed from "Sleeping Beauty" carried over, but took somewhat of a backseat while we got acquainted with the intense and very much alive Kelly Burkhardt. Her presence provided us with a great opportunity to reveal some vital information about the mysterious key left to Nick by his late Aunt Marie. And there is really no better way to catch up with your long lost mother than by battling a creature thought to be extinct.
