This episode was all about playing with the idea of Wesen genetics. We went back and forth for a while arguing both sides, but were happy to finally agree on the notion that a Wesen can theoretically have their DNA altered to display certain traits. At the bare bones, it provided an interesting platform for a discourse on modern day medical technology and the ethical implications around such a hot button issue. The story itself definitely had a little Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde to it, and it fit perfectly into our world. We were asking a lot of our guest acting talent and they couldn't have done a better job at tackling such a unique episode. We were especially taken with Mary Page Keller, the actress who portrayed Dr. Ramona Higgins.

We thought this was a great time to readdress something that has been on our minds since day one, that being the time in which a child experiences his or her first Woge. We did that by focusing on a couple that wasn't adequately prepared for their child's coming of age. We also got to have a little fun with Monroe keeping an eye on the Spice Shop and making it clear that it is a very delicate business. One of our bigger concerns was finding the right actor to play the role of April Granger. It was very important for her to keep a low profile until we learn it's actually her behind all of these vicious attacks, and the talented Jade Pettyjohn couldn't have given a better performance.

We really wanted to bring a familiar face back into the mix and loved the idea of seeing Monroe's Blutbad ex-girlfriend again. It gave us the opportunity to flesh out the notion that helping a Grimm is seriously risky business in the Wesen world. Jaime Ray Newman plays the volatile Angelina so well that it was hard to watch her go. We tried over and over again to find a way to keep her alive, but given the intensity of the story, and the use of a potion with such grave implementations as Dead Faint, it was only fitting. We did, however, find solace in the notion that she achieved a sense of atonement from some of her past deeds through her selfless actions.
