"The beast was simply the Call of the Wild personified... which some natures hear to their own destruction."
"The Wendigo" - 1910 tale by Algernon Blackwood
Algernon Blackwood was a fantasy and horror writer during the late 19th and early 20th century. His work, "The Wendigo," was one of the first to give the Native American Algonquin legend of the Wendigo mainstream mention. Since then the Wendigo has been no stranger to the horror genre, although it hasn't reached the level of werewolves and vampires, it nevertheless exists within that camp. Blackwood's story follows a small hunting party, led by a Native American guide, as they trek through the Canadian wilderness. One of the members is eventually abducted by a Wendigo. In our episode, we tried our best to remain true to the original legend, which heavily revolved around cannibalism. We best accomplished this through a book entry found by Nick and Hank in the trailer.
