Our office relies heavily on paper coffee mugs and plastic water bottles. So, as an experiment for Earth Week we (meaning I) decided to remove all paper cups and plastic bottles forcing people to bring in a ceramic/insulated coffee mug and use actual glasses for water consumption. So far so good, but its not quite 11am here in Los Angeles. Perhaps in a few hours my crisp white shirt will be covered in coffee from unhappy people who had to search for a new way to drink their morning cup of joe.
Here’s the deal, it’s not easy to change when the convenience of paper cups and bottles are constantly in front of you. Sometimes it takes removing the enticing items to not use them. We are in a mode of training here at NBC.com…training the staff to think GREEN, training the staff to consume less, training the staff to embrace the simple and easy changes they can make.
Some of my colleagues were ready this morning with their mugs:
“RC getting his coffee from the NBC.com kitchen”
“Uli working on redesigns while enjoying his coffee at his desk”
“Mytch, who will be contributing to this blog later this week, enjoys his morning tea in his mug.”
“Our NBC.com photographer Walker displaying a self photo while pouring his half and half into his morning coffee.”
Even as I type this blog, I can hear people in the kitchen talking about other ways to “Go Green” and on the flip side; I can hear a few people frustrated they can’t find any cups! Sorry guys! But, from recycling at home, to using energy saving light bulbs…everyone can do something to help the environment! And that means YOU TOO!
NBC Universal’s Earth Week celebration runs through Sunday, April 27th, but the education doesn’t stop there. All the NBC Universal sites, including www.greenisuniversal.com will remain live and be updated with new tips and information.
Remember…it’s everyone’s responsibility to help preserve the environment!
