Road Trip Games

Be prepared. That's the Boy Scout motto and it should be yours before you start any road trip. Here's a list of supplies you'll want to have for the long haul across the country or short weekend trip… just in case.

Foodie
  1. Eat at a roadside diner. Always a taste of Americana and a great way to meet the different characters you find on the highways. Pick up one of their sure-to-have signature t-shirts while you're at it.
  2. Taste the local flavors. From green chili in Santa Fe, to sourdough bread in San Francisco, to steamed crabs in Baltimore, America offers almost everything in terms of food culture. So get out there and dig in!
  3. Go beer tasting. Microbreweries are a great American tradition. Collect the bottles and different labels as you travel and you'll have a story to attach to each. You can even create a road trip scrapbook and stick them in there for the memories. Just bring apple juice for the kids so they don't feel left out.
  4. Go wine tasting. A classier version of #3. The U.S. has some great wine regions and not just in California. Check out the vineyards in New York, Oregon, and Virginia to name a few! Ask for grape juice for the kids.
  5. Go to the local Chinatowns. Doesn't it seem like every major city has a Chinatown? Well as long as you're trekking across this great country, start a catalogue of all the ones you come across! Grab some great authentic Chinese food for the road, and we're not talking about sweet and sour pork.
  6. Eat a 72 oz. steak. If you can eat all four and a half pounds in an hour, it's free. Only in America, folks, only in America. Check it out here: www.bigtexan.com
  7. Discover the barbeques of the USA. Is Texas barbeque better than Tennessee barbeque? What about Kansas City? Only one way to find out! Get in your car and see for yourself! Your taste buds will thank you.
  8. Try something weird. Stopping for a bite? Forget the safe stuff. Dare your family to eat something more interesting. Rocky Mountain Oysters, perhaps? Or maybe some rattlesnake or possum?
