Season 5 Synopsis

Season 5, the show's final season, starts with Julie and Landry's departures for college. Billy becomes an assistant coach for the Lion. Becky Sproles moves in with Mindy and Billy, and Mindy eventually takes her under her wing. She and Luke begin dating.

Vince Howard thrives in his new position as the Lion's superstar quarterback, and the team racks up win after win on a march toward the finals in the state championship. Vince's life gets complicated by the return of his ex-con father, who attempts to lead Vince to college scholarships but instead leads to Vince getting benched and breaking up with Jess. Julie falters in college after she has an affair with a married TA, and for the first time in her life finds herself out of her father's good graces. Eventually she recovers and heads back to school, but instead heads to Chicago to reunite with Matt.

Tim, deeply altered, is released from prison, complicating Becky's feelings for Luke. Meanwhile, as the Lions get closer and closer to State, Coach considers, then rejects, an offer to become head coach for a college in Florida. Coach's and Tami's plans become further complicated when Tami receives a dream offer to become head of admissions for a college in Pennsylvania and Coach learns that, due to budget cuts, East Dillon and West Dillon will be combining their teams for the next school year.
