Season 2 starts with Coach Taylor in Austin coaching at fictional TMU, flying back just in time to be with Tami as she gives birth to their daughter Gracie Bell. While the Taylor's marriage was always a highlight of the show, the new addition to their family allowed for a renewed focus on their beautiful relationship.
Other major storylines included Tyra and Landry's cover-up after Landry's unintentional murder of Tyra's stalker; Tim and Lyla convincing Street to avoid a questionable surgery in Mexico; Tim's pursuit of a newly religious Lyla; Matt falling in love with his grandma's Guatemalan live-in nurse; Buddy's successful attempt to fire the Panther's new coach to allow for the return of Coach Taylor; and Street's unintentional getting a girl pregnant after a one-night stand.
Due to the writer's strike of 2007, the show ended on an unresolved note, with Jason attempting to convince Erin to keep the baby, promising to take care of both of them. The show's head writer and executive producer, Jason Katims, stated that this last episode was “not in any way viewed as the season finale... If we were leading to the end of the season [under normal circumstances], we would have most likely brought the story around to the coach and his family again,” and there would have been a strong football element as well. Seven of the 22 episodes NBC ordered for Season 2 weren’t made.
