It’s Getting Hot in Here
With nine designers remaining in the competition, the tension is rising. That makes this week's challenge particularly difficult because this week they'll have to work in teams to develop sexy summer looks for the buyers to consider. Daniel, Priscilla and Johana choose a "Summer in the City" theme. Cassandra, Amber, Brandon and Silvia choose the theme of "Tropical Vacation," and Garrett, JesseRay and Hunter go with a "Pool Party" theme.
After the teams have chosen their themes, they dive into the workshop to create their winning looks. The mentors drop by to offer their input on the teams' concepts. Team John and Team Jessica have it together. Over in Team Nicole's corner, Daniel and Priscilla immediately butt heads with Johana, whose vision doesn't seem to align with those of her teammates. While Daniel and Priscilla are coordinating their plan, Johana begins working individually.
While Johana makes a surprise visit to the fabric store, Daniel and Priscilla lament their situation with Johana. When Johana returns from the store, she's confronted by her teammates. Johana feels that she needs to do what's best for her design, rather than taking her team's wishes into consideration. Meanwhile, Hunter seems to be struggling with her design. JesseRay and Garrett do their best to reassure Hunter that she knows what she's doing.
John provides feedback on Brandon's design ideas. By now, Brandon has learned to take John's advice. Jessica checks in with her team and provides some input on their design ideas. Meanwhile, Amber is defying John's advice and trusting her design instincts. Cassandra doesn't like Amber's design, and the animosity is beginning to weigh on Amber.
As the models are prepped for the runway, the designers make last-second adjustments. Before long, John's team hits the runway to show off their "Tropical Vacation" collection. Saks buys Sylvia's dress for $75,000, and Express buys Brandon's shorts for $50,000 and Cassandra's dress for $75,000. It was a great night for John's team!
Next, Jessica's team shows off their "Pool Party" collection. JesseRay and Garrett's dresses bring in $60,000 from Macy's. Caprice also purchases Hunter's dresses for $110,000. Despite Hunter's nerves earlier in the challenge, her hard work and faith in her ideas has paid off. Hunter becomes the first contestant to have her collection featured in all three stores, and Jessica's team comes out with a huge win tonight.
Finally, Nicole's team takes to the runway to show off their "Summer in the City" collection. The team was plagued by controversy in this challenge, as Johana decided to fly solo rather than working with her teammates. It was a serious gamble, and Johana is hoping her decision pays off. In the end, the buyers pass on Priscilla and Daniel's designs, but Express buys Johana's jumpsuit for $100,000. Her gamble paid off!
The mentors discuss which designers should be placed on the elimination block. They weigh the strengths and weaknesses of Priscilla, Daniel and Amber. The contestants are called back to the stage to decide who's headed home. The mentors put Amber and Priscilla on the chopping block. In the end, the buyers decide to eliminate Priscilla from the competition because, while she has a unique style, it's not the best fit for any of the stores. Priscilla is upset with the decision, feeling that the buyers aren't taking big enough risks.
