I recently visited the set of Days of our Lives and had a nice interview with the always charming Shawn Christian. He's always a pleasure to talk to and seems to always have smile on his face when I bump into him. In this interview, I wanted to get to know how he feels about his character, Dr. Daniel Jonas, and the recent changes his character is going through.

Days' Insider: So, diving right in. Should we talk about your current storyline on the show?
Shawn: My character has taken some very crazy and wild turns recently. Somebody texted, Tweeted, or emailed me to point out that I have managed to get every fan base of the show to hate me. The Phloes hate me, the Broes hate me, the Carbos hate me, even the Bopes hate me because I can't get Carly away from Bo so he can be with Hope. So, I guess Daniel is just a big loser.
Days' Insider: But you did take out a heart and save Jennifer Horton's life!
Shawn: I did! I'll be winning a Nobel Peace Prize for that action. What can I say; Daniel has his own unorthodox techniques. Look, he had to make do with what he had inside that prison cell. The place was archaic. At least we had smocks and a cooler with a heart!
Days' Insider: How did you feel when you first heard about this heroic action?
Shawn: When I imagined it in my mind. I had the sense of this Frankenstein-like set. It wasn't that bad, but the technique itself was very Frankenstein. And I got to perform the surgery on Jennifer with my own daughter. Look, I think it's fantastic, that's the beauty of the part. I can do an eye surgery on a little boy, while his wife is losing her mind; my daughter's getting pregnant by the guy who knocked up my fiancée. It's a wonderful and colorful and unpredictable character. I love playing Daniel because there's always a challenge of the day, and then all of my storylines get woven together. It's like juggling chainsaws, you know, if I really juggled chainsaws.
Days' Insider: It seems like Daniel has a lot of female friends in Salem. He's really trying to be the stand-up guy when women need him most. Would you agree?
Shawn: I'm not going to pat Daniel on the back or anything. The man is no angel and definitely has his demons for sure. What's interesting is now he's discovering a part in his daughter's life and not be self-righteous with Philip or Chloe, because he, himself, has never made apologies for his own behavior. It's part of that nature with playing Daniel. You don't know what his behavior will be like on any given day because he throws himself into these situations. All of his actions come with a price, and with me, I take the good and the bad.
Days' Insider: I think as long as fans are buzzing about you, that means you're doing a good job.
Shawn: Yeah, definitely. The complexity that the writers have given my character makes me so grateful.
Days' Insider: Can you give fans a hint of what's to come for your character in Salem?
Shawn: What can I say? Expect the unknown. Daniel's going back into the unknown himself. He really is treading new waters and that's his state of mind. He's going to throw himself into wherever he's needed and not really concern himself with his surroundings. After all, how much worst can it get for this guy?
Days' Insider: Well, don't ask that question in Salem.
Shawn: You're right, I shouldn't! (Laughs)
Any time spent with Shawn is time well spent. As always, I'm appreciative of his taking the time to sit down and talk to me. I can't wait to see what's next for. Dr. Daniel. After all, think of the possibilities he has with some very lucky ladies in Salem.
