Spending a Day with Galen

I recently had the job of heading over to the land of Salem and hanging out with the always-entertaining Galen Gering. We chatted about his current storyline and what fans can expect.

Days Insider: Are you having fun with your new storyline?

Galen: It's such a blast. I mean to play a total opposite character. Seriously, everyday, I love feeling challenged as an actor. It's a great opportunity for departure from the everyday Rafe. It's funny, all the crew guys around here are commenting, "This new guy is great. He's such a dirty hound dog."

Days Insider: What did you first think when you picked up the script?

Galen: Our Executive Producer Gary Tomlin told me a few weeks prior and I was super excited. I had done a similar storyline over at "Passions" for about a week, so the scope of this was familiar. As I dig into these two characters deeper, I get to know them better. I think we'll see more and more of this Rafe imposter's personality and that allows me to explore him more and more as an actor.

Days Insider: Do you see yourself in any of the two characters you're playing?

Galen: I see myself in both characters. Rafe 2 is definitely mischievous and has a wicked sense of humor. I think Rafe has his funny moments, too, but he's not as abrasive, more refined. Then again, they both are very different than me, too.

Days Insider: Do you welcome a challenge like this as an actor?

Galen: Definitely. Especially, the pace we move here on the set, you know sometimes I feel like shooting myself. It's one of those situations, be careful what you wish for, but so far, my work has been really well-received and it's been an incredible rollercoaster ride. One of the things I'm saying is, that I've been playing the Rafe 2 character for so long, it's going to be a fun challenge to get back into Rafe's shoes and make him more significant in the love story. This new Rafe 2 has no filter, so in the meantime, I'll just have fun with him.

Days Insider: Going back to the love story, I think "SAFE" fans are the most vocal fans, along with Ejami fans. Why do you think the Sami and Rafe love story appeals to fans?

Galen: Well, fans are invested in the characters. It's always a great thing. The Ejami fans are the same way. The SAFE fans follow what Sami and Rafe have gone through. These two got together, had some great times, then had some very serious drama to deal with. Whether it was a child passing away, to a son having eye cancer, or a sister dying in a car accident. The scale was always tipped against them and they were never able to really have their moment of fun. Keeping in mind, this was very hard for us as actors to segue these moments where we can show the chemistry between these two characters. Certainly, I believe Sami and Rafe have incredible chemistry, so it works and the fans are willing to fight for it and we appreciate that, too.

Days Insider: Is it always surprising to see how far Rafe would go for love?

Galen: Yeah, totally. Especially, when he was seducing Nicole to get information about Sydney's kidnapping. I think Rafe is somebody who will forgive the people he loves, but not the people that he despises and I think Nicole is one of those people he despises for all the pain she's caused to Sami. Rafe also feels Nicole is partially responsible for being a catalyst for a lot of bad things that have happened to Sami. Rafe is the guy who will always stand by the woman he loves to no end.

Days Insider: One last question, what can fans tune in for in the upcoming weeks on Days?

Galen: Oh wow! They can tune in for this incredible, crazy, emotional rollercoaster ride with this new Rafe imposter. I would say in all the years as an actor, figuring out what storylines are going to work and how it's going to affect people, I think this is really exciting and fun and certainly I hope it translates to the screen.

Days Insider: Well, you are doing a great job and you are definitely making this storyline fun and entertaining.

Galen: Thank you!

I hope you enjoyed my interview with Galen. I'm eager to hear your thoughts on the two Rafes. I don't know about you, but I can tell he's having the ride of his life with this storyline. Can't wait to see how it plays out!
