DAYS' Detroit Winners

As you already know from reading my recent interview with Shawn Christian, Days of our Lives had a casting call in Detroit earlier in the year. Now it is time for those two very lucky actors to make their debut in Salem. I caught up with the two winners, Gary Clayton and Henri Franklin.

First up is Gary Clayton.

Days Insider: Can you describe a little bit of your character on Days of our Lives?

Gary: I'm a guy from high school who has always had a crush on Mia from afar and he runs into her in the Java Café and she plants a kiss on him to stir some jealousy. I'm just excited I already have a kiss on my first day shooting.

Days Insider: Tell us a little more about the casting call in Detroit.

Gary: The whole thing really started when I joined a random Facebook group to get details. Then I went to school (I attend a school for performing arts) and more people were talking about the casting call. A friend and I went to the casting call and I auditioned, after waiting in a line with over a thousand people. The next day, they called 24 back and I was one of them. They were originally going to only choose one actor, but they ended up choosing two!

Days Insider: Which actors have you interacted with since arriving on set?

Gary: I have met Chandler Massey and Taylor Spreitler, since we have scenes together. And of course, I met the actors that helped cast me in Detroit: Shawn Christian, Nadia Bjorlin, and Shelley Hennig.

Days Insider: How has the general reaction been from your family and friends?

Gary: They were all very surprised. They are big fans of the show. Here's hoping they'll bring me back.

My next interview was with Henri Franklin. I caught up with him after he literally just finished shooting his scenes.

Days Insider: Want to tell us a little about your character on the show?

Henri: I play a character named Greg who is a nurse at the hospital who hates his job. He can't stand the sight of blood and gets queasy being around sick people.

Days Insider: How has Los Angeles been treating you, so far, compared to Detroit?

Henri: Los Angeles is very fast-paced compared to Detroit. But, the people here at NBC and Days of our Lives have been phenomenal. It's like being welcomed into a huge family and I really enjoy that atmosphere.

Days Insider: Describe a little of your experience from the casting call in Detroit?

Henri: My background is theater and I studied it in college. After college, I stuck around Detroit and opened up my own theater company with two friends of mine. We write, act, and direct our own shows. I also mentor students. From that, I had up to five different people approach me and tell me about this Days of our Lives audition in town. Typically, a giant "cattle call" is not my scene, but I had a good feeling and tried it and here we are.

Days Insider: Has the entire experience been pretty memorable?

Henri: Most definitely. This is my first television experience and so far, all I can say is that it's been pretty cool. It was an easier adjustment to have a theater background coming to television. Everybody has made me feel very comfortable and that helps a lot.

Days Insider: Who have you interacted with on-set?

Henri: My scenes are shared with Nadia Bjorlin and Louise Sorel. It's been a lot of fun. I get to share scenes with the conniving and sneaky Vivian and then get to share scenes with a very beautiful Chloe. I'm not complaining. It was especially cool catching up with Nadia, since she and I first met in Detroit. All the actors on the show have been very friendly and accommodating. Overall, it's been a very rewarding experience.

I hope you enjoyed my interviews with these two very talented actors. I decided to post a few photos of them in action as well, so you know who to look out for on your television screens in the near future. Thanks for reading!
