Ask An Executive

Earlier, I had asked fans over at the message boards to submit questions they would love to have answered by the people behind "Days of our Lives." I had the pleasure of getting some your questions answered by one of the programming executives at NBC and here is what he said.

From TV Cat 1: What is your role with the show?
NBC Exec: My role with the show is to make sure it is living up to the creative expectations that NBC has, day by day and week by week. For that matter, I am very involved with the creative direction of the show and with how it moves forward.

From Red Hat 10017: Do storylines change if there is a bad fan reaction?
NBC Exec: Unfortunately we are so far ahead, sometimes it's prohibitive to change anything, since we have already filmed so many episodes in advance. When we can, we try to make course corrections, but sometimes, it's not possible to make dramatic corrections when a storyline isn't sitting well with fans.

From Volleyball and TV Girl: Who decides which characters should be paired up?
NBC Exec: The writers usually come up with the ideas of who they want to see paired up and they pitch the ideas to us. Sometimes we agree and sometimes we don't. Sometimes there is a chemistry on-screen that the fans can see and they let us know it. We listen to the fans and check on their reactions. And if they enjoy a particular couple, we let the writers know. If we all agree, we certainly try to go with the flow and make the fans happy.

Those are just some of your questions answered, but please make sure to check back to see if your question will be answered next!
