Kate questions Daniel about his decision to not be Chloe's doctor. Daniel and Chloe both explain it was Chloe's decision. Kate meets up with Lucas, Philip, Stephanie, Max, and Chelsea at Chez Rouge to ring in the New Year. At the DiMera mansion, Chloe meets up with Nicole who advises her to not tell Lucas the truth about whatever it is she's hiding. After she leaves, Chloe runs into Daniel at the pier. She sprains her ankle and Daniel is forced to carry her. John unexpectedly joins Marlena and Charlotte at Chez Rouge. Charlotte decides to leave due to not wanting to socialize with her patient outside of work. Marlena leaves, too, after John hurts her feelings. John catches up with Marlena at the Brady pub and apologizes to her. Max and Chelsea remind each other that they are just friends. Max agrees to go with Chelsea to Chez Rouge. They kiss when New Year's hits and Chelsea panics and runs off. Melanie goes to Chez Rouge because she knows Philip and Stephanie are going to be there. She arranges for a patron to bump into Stephanie who spills her drink on her dress which provides a little alone time with Philip. Lucas and Kate worry about Daniel and Chloe's whereabouts. EJ plans to surprise Nicole with a proposal. As the New Year is closes in, EJ begins to worry Nicole isn't home. Meanwhile, Nicole leaves Dr. Baker's office happy, having given him a detailed list of requirements for her baby. Dr. Baker calls Nicole and tells her he may have found her a baby. Nicole's car breaks down in route back to Dr. Baker's office, and she fears she will miss her opportunity.
