Melanie tells Brady she still has feelings for Philip. Brady tells her she shouldn't be in a relationship at all. Melanie senses his dour advice comes off his own rocky relationship with Arianna but Brady leaves, not wanting to discuss it. Melanie goes looking for him, finds Philip instead. She maintains she is not interested in Philip, but when she inadvertently reveals that she is, Philip tells her not to make the same mistake he did and wait forever to figure out what she wants. Nathan and Stephanie cross paths in the pub just as a woman stops breathing. While Caroline and Stephanie call 911, Nathan is forced to perform a tracheotomy and does what he can to save the woman's life. Later, after learning the woman is fine, he admits to Stephanie he's never lost a patient and worries how he'll handle it when he does. Stephanie assures him she's never been prouder of him and the two hug. Nicole and Chad are at the hospital. Chad is giving blood per a court order to determine whether Sydney is Chad's baby. Chad is taken aback by Nicole's conciliatory attitude. Lexie warns Chad that Nicole can't be trusted. Chad wonders if he'll be able to trust the results when they come in. Stefano sees EJ softening in his attitude toward Nicole and shares the good news with her. Thrilled, Nicole goes to Sami, who is also in a good mood, and, after swearing Nicole to secrecy, tells her Rafe is back. Meanwhile, Sami and EJ go to Grace's grave and mourn her together. After Rafe gives his FBI friend Sami's toothbrush and Sydney's teething ring to be tested for DNA, Arianna again warns him that by pursuing Sydney's true parentage, he might end up pushing Sami and EJ together. Rafe insists Sami loves him but is bothered when he calls Sami and discovers she's with EJ. When he goes to meet his friend for Sydney's DNA results, he runs into EJ.
