Maggie Horton played by Suzanne Rogers
Maggie was crippled at an early age as the result of a car accident that killed her parents. Only when young, amnesiac, Mickey Horton stumbled onto her doorstep, did Maggie find hope for a future. With Mickey's help, Maggie found the medical help she needed to walk again. Maggie & Mickey returned to Salem once his true identity became known, which led to new set of emotional pressures on Maggie. Maggie, who suffers from myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness/fatigue), turned to alcohol.
As with many Salemites, Mickey was once targeted by Stefano DiMera and presumed dead. During this time, Maggie almost married Don Craig and also was romanced by Dr. Neil Curtis. In fact, Dr. Curtis was revealed to be the sperm donor of Maggie's daughter, Sarah. Maggie & Mickey earned custody of Sarah after the parents who hired Maggie as a surrogate turned out to be unfit. In fact, Sarah discovered Maggie & Neil in bed together and was so betrayed that she ultimately revealed the news to Mickey - who had returned to Salem. Maggie worked things out with Mickey, and Sarah moved to Nashville to live with her adopted sister, Melissa.
Maggie played a key role in the Salem Stalker terror. Locked deep within her psyche was the identity of the killer. On Halloween night, this knowledge proved deadly. Maggie let the killer -- obviously a friend -- into her home. The recovering alcoholic was bludgeoned to death using a liquor bottle! When Maggie returned to Salem with the other "victims", she was shocked to find her beloved Mickey remarried to her nemesis/housekeeper Bonnie Lockhart! Maggie moved in with the newlyweds to battle for Mickey's affections. She won when Mickey kicked Bonnie out.
With her personal life finally settled and peaceful, Maggie focused on other matters. She became the head of the Salem Arts Council and began volunteering at the hospital. She also became a prime source of good advice for many people in town. She urged Hope not to divorce Bo when they had problems. She convinced Nick to be honest with Chelsea in the beginning of their relationship. Recently, Maggie has given John tips to win back Marlena, and stepped in when EJ was being threatened with deportation.
Now that Mickey has hired EJ to help with his law practice, Maggie and her husband will have a little more time to spend together. Maggie has also had her hands full with Chez Rouge, which she has just converted into an eco-friendly restaurant.
