Abigail Deveraux played by Kate Mansi
The beloved older child of super-couple Jack Harcourt Deveraux and Jennifer Rose Horton Deveraux, Abby has recently returned to Salem after spending time studying in England and Spain. Always the darling of her parents, the fresh-faced co-ed is still getting her bearings back home, but is planning to attend Salem University in the fall.
As a baby, Abby was named after Alice Horton's mother Abigail and Jack's mother Josephine. She was afflicted at a very early age with aplastic anemia, caused by her exposure to polluted well water. Her father Jack was so wracked with guilt at harming his daughter that he left town.
Eventually, Jack returned and convinced the entire Deveraux family to relocate to Africa for a few years. Abby's international upbringing also includes a stint in Ireland, where she and her mother lived before returning to Salem. When her itinerant dad also returned to town, Abby hoped against hope that her parents would reunite - but her mom could not be swayed. In a sad turn of events, Abby's father soon fell victim to the Salem Stalker. With the father of her children literally at death's door, Jennifer had to make the fateful and heart-wrenching choice to turn off his life support. The decision infuriated Abby and drove a wedge between mother and daughter. Miraculously, Jack wasn't really dead; to Abby's delight, her family soon reunited.
Before long, Abby and the family welcomed its newest member, baby Jack Jr. But the joy was short-lived: not long after the arrival of baby Jack, Jack Sr. became ill. As soon as he was able to recover, the Abby and the family moved to London, where she began her college career. Eventually, Jack left his family once again, this time to find himself on a "walkabout." His whereabouts are currently unknown, but Abby undoubtedly awaits his return.
Abby is finding her way in her re-discovered hometown; she's full of energy and questions about all that's changed she last lived there. And as Salem's newest ingenue, she will likely soon be capturing the imagination of some of Salem's young men.
