Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Vaughan was first discovered in a community back-to-school fashion show and was immediately signed by a local modeling agent.
With the opportunity to travel the world, he ventured to Milan, Italy, only months after high school graduation. Upon his arrival, he landed prestigious campaigns for the legendary designers Giorgio Armani and Gianni Versace, as well as Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.
The nomadic lifestyle came to an end through his mother's influence. She encouraged him to follow his true passion - acting. Vaughan's acting career began with abundant commercial work, preparing him for opportunities ahead.
In 1996, Vaughan made his television series debut as Josh Walker in the popular Aaron Spelling series "Malibu Shores." This soon spun off into "Beverly Hills, 90210," where Vaughan played Cliff Yeager (1996 - 1997). Trying his hand at a few small independent films, he was cast in the popular cult films "Poison Ivy" and "The New Seduction" (1997).
Vaughan spent his time between projects on a number of guest-starring television appearances in such series as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Any Day Now," "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Nash Bridges" before shooting the controversial dramedy pilot "Student Affairs" for Imagine Television.
Not long after, Eric discovered someone stalking him. It turned out to be an old schoolmate, Jed Fox, who lost his position at school when he was found guilty of date rape. Even though he was the true perpetrator of the crime, Jed threatened to kill Sami unless Eric confessed to it. Luckily, Eric managed to convince Jed to accept his crimes and move on.
Shortly thereafter he started working at Countess Wilhelmina as a photographer, inviting Nicole Walker, a waitress at the Java Cafe, to model for him. Romance between the two blossomed, although Nicole strained their relationship when details from her storied past emerged. As Eric turned his attention to Sami's upcoming murder trial, Nicole got involved with Lucas Roberts. When Eric learned of Nicole and Lucas' marriage, Eric officially ended his relationship with Nicole.
Eric began dating an older woman, Greta Von Amberg, although he never stopped thinking about Nicole. He succumbed to the attraction, and they began an affair. When Greta realized Eric still loved Nicole, she broke things off.
Eric experienced a near-fatal accident at a railway crossing. After enduring the trial that followed, Eric decided to leave Salem. Before he left though, he told Nicole he would always love her.
In November 2012, Eric shocked Salem by returning to town as a priest. Nicole sought him out, and he encouraged her to seek forgiveness from those she had wronged in the past. She took his advice, and Eric noted her willingness to change, offering her a job as a church secretary and a place to stay in the convent. In turn, she evolved into a confidant for Eric. As a photographer in the Congo, he witnessed countless acts of violence and suffering, moments that haunted him and spurred regular nightmares. Opening up to Nicole helped Eric heal, and he thanked her by giving her one of the photos he took in Africa.
Although he now sleeps through the night, Eric's not aware of some recent choices Nicole made outside the convent, not to mention his own role as a victim in a devious plot orchestrated by Kristen DiMera. It's only a matter of time before the secrets rise to the surface...
