When Nicole Walker first hit the Salem scene, she was an underpaid waitress with big aspirations. Her dream came true when she was chosen to be the cover model for Bella magazine. Nicole soon found herself five million dollars richer, thanks to Kate's payment for marrying Lucas. Life only got richer when, after her marriage to Lucas went bust, she married the very wealthy and powerful Victor Kiriakis.

Unfortunately, Nicole felt like a prisoner while married to Victor, so the marriage didn't last. She went on to work for Austin Reed's new company, later transferring to Los Angeles.

Nicole returned to Salem to take care of some unfinished business - namely, securing her divorce settlement from Victor. She hired the dashing EJ DiMera to help her build a case. After it was revealed that Nicole was married to the sinister Trent Robbins during her marriage to Victor, she was left penniless. Luckily, her dashing attorney offered a sympathetic ear, and before long, Nicole and EJ began falling for each other. After Nicole became pregnant, she and EJ married. When Nicole miscarried, she took desperate measures to keep the truth from EJ, kidnapping Sami's baby and passing her off as her own. Nicole was eventually caught and spent time in prison.

After Nicole was released from prison, she set her sights on Brady Black. He admitted he would always love her and be her friend, but he was "in love" with Arianna. Nicole didn't let that stop her. Eventually, she framed Arianna for the crimes Hope had committed. EJ and Rafe, however, both started to suspect Nicole knew more than she let on. Nicole got nervous and broke into the DiMera Mansion to find some dirt on EJ - and she did. She discovered that EJ had been the mastermind behind Sydney's kidnapping. She used the information against EJ to get him to back off.

Nicole and Brady grew closer. He received the news that Arianna had been killed, and he was still her beneficiary. Included in them was a tape recording of Sami admitting that she was the one who shot EJ. Nicole eventually used it to her advantage. She moved into the DiMera mansion to act as EJ's children's stepmother, even though it meant she had to give up her relationship with Brady. EJ asked Nicole to marry him. The motive was still to get back at Sami, but eventually, Nicole began to develop feelings for EJ.

Nicole's sister Taylor showed up and asked Nicole for a place to stay. Nicole was reluctant at first, due to their rough history together, but eventually agreed. Taylor had a chance meeting with EJ, and the two fell in love at first sight. It wasn't until the day of Nicole and EJ's wedding that Taylor realized that she was in love with her sister's husband. After the wedding, EJ and Taylor started a relationship. Nicole caught them kissing. She was heartbroken and determined to make both of them pay. When the truth about EJ and Stefano's involvement in Fay's death came out, Taylor left him, and then Salem.

EJ recruited Nicole to serve as his campaign manager for his mayoral election. She realized that she was still in love with him. She happily fell back into the role of his wife, and the two planned a life together. Their happiness ended, however, when Rafe revealed that EJ and Sami had slept together on the night Johnny went missing.

Nicole walked out on EJ. Daniel found an upset Nicole in Horton Square and tried to comfort her. Nicole soon learned that she was pregnant. She did not want EJ to know and swore Daniel to secrecy. Rafe also learned the truth and agreed to keep it a secret, too. When EJ learned Nicole was pregnant, Rafe claimed he was the father.

Nicole and Daniel's relationship heated up, even after he caught her switching the DNA samples on her paternity test. Daniel, Nicole and Rafe continue with the charade about who the real father of her baby is, but how long before the truth comes out?
