Recently, Sweeney tackled the role of producer and director with the creation of "In Tune," an on-line soap opera set in a music store. She also is busy working with Huggies on their 30th anniversary initiatives and co-hosted the MDA Telethon again in September for the second consecutive year.

Sami began dating Alan, who eventually raped her. Her testimony did not hold up and the case was dropped. Later, when Alan threatened her at gunpoint, Sami shot him. After the ordeal, she turned to Lucas for comfort. They made love and she conceived Will. Sami was still in love with Austin, however, and she drugged him to get him into bed. He vowed that it would never happen again. Sami interrupted Carrie and Austin's wedding with the false news that he was her baby's father.
When Will was kidnapped and sold on the black market in France, Austin and Sami were forced to legally marry in order to regain custody. A series of accidents prevented Austin from getting an annulment. Will's real paternity was finally revealed, and Austin married Carrie.
Sami became engaged to Franco Kelly. Austin found Franco sleeping with a stripper and told Sami moments before the wedding. Sami threatened to kill Franco and moments later, he was found dead. Sami was convicted and sentenced to die by lethal injection. Seconds before her injection, Lucas ran in and confessed. Sami was cleared of the crime.
Sami and Lucas's relationship heated up and they became engaged. A scheming Kate tried everything in her power to stop the wedding. She orchestrated Brandon's return, then drugged him and Sami and stuck them in bed naked together. Lucas found them and the wedding was off. Sami blamed Kate, and Brandon did the same, but she squirmed her way out of it.
Sami started getting mysterious messages about "revenge," and it wasn't long before she'd been transformed into a man named "Stan." She didn't know that it was Tony whose evil deeds she was carrying out, she only knew she loved getting back at the people she hated. The truth about what Kate had done came out, and Lucas and Sami planned to marry - again. Then Kate uncovered the truth - Sami was "Stan!" Kate told everyone the truth and the wedding was off. Luckily, there was someone there to comfort Sami - Austin.
Sami had competition from the newly-returned Carrie. Sami blackmailed Lexie to tell Carrie that if she and Austin were to have children, they would have terrible birth defects. Desperate to have children, Carrie chose Lucas. And before she knew it, she was pregnant. Austin proposed to Sami, but on that same night she got a heart-stopping message: a mysterious someone knew about her blackmail. On her big day, Sami got a phone call; if she went through with the wedding, the truth would come out. This time, Sami left Austin at the altar. She gave him back his ring and told him she could never marry him.
After Lucas caught Carrie and Austin together, his marriage ended, and he and Sami grew closer. That ended, however, when the "gloved hand" left a note detailing Sami's deception about Austin and Carrie's potential progeny. Fortunately, she had someone to turn to: EJ. He told her she shouldn't apologize for who she was, and she liked that idea. As Sami and EJ grew closer, Lucas realized he still had feelings for her and sabotaged her relationship with EJ.
On their way to a ski getaway, Lucas and Sami's car broke down, and he was trapped in an abandoned cabin. Sami set out to find help, but only one person stopped. EJ. He agreed to help, on one condition. Sami had to have sex with him! Sami told Lucas that she was pregnant, hiding that there was a chance the baby was EJ's. Lucas proposed.
Sami and Lucas were pronounced man and wife! Everyone headed to Chez Rouge, where Marlena presented a video of Sami and Lucas over the years. Stuck right in the middle was a photo of Sami and EJ taken by red-light cameras on the night he was escaping from the police. Kate had found the photo, and EJ had slipped it into the video. Lucas surprised everyone by asking Sami if she still wanted to be his wife. He revealed that he knew all along that EJ helped her save his life in the cabin and he didn't care. Sami admitted that she had sex with EJ that night and the baby could be his.
Sami learned she was carrying twins and a DNA test showed that EJ was the father. Stefano dictated that the only way to end the feud was if EJ and Sami married and raised their twins together, but she resisted. After John was killed by a hit-and-run driver, Sami agreed to divorce Lucas and marry EJ. Sami gave birth to the twins, and a DNA test showed that Lucas was the father of the girl and EJ was the father of the boy. At the small ceremony, EJ was shot just after he and Sami said their vows. Lucas was arrested and sent to prison.
As Sami and EJ were about to make their annulment official, he learned that his visa was about to expire and he would be deported. They moved into the DiMera mansion to prove that they were indeed a legitimate couple. Sami eventually admitted her feelings for EJ, and the two made love. Unfortunately, Lucas was released, and he showed up to find EJ and Sami in bed!
Sami learned that she was pregnant. She and Lucas both knew that EJ was the father. Sami didn't want to tell him about the baby, but she went to the mansion to do so and witnessed a murder! Roman sent Sami to live in a safe house. While in witness protection, she clashed with an FBI agent named Rafe Hernandez.
When their location was compromised, Rafe took Sami to a nearby convent. Sami confessed that she needed a secret place to give birth. Nicole overheard this and gave the nun the name of a "secret" clinic. When Sami went into labor, Sister Theresa took her there. Nicole appeared with Mia's baby and blackmailed Dr. Baker into swapping the babies. Sami named "her" baby Grace.
Sami returned from witness protection with her "adopted" baby. She had also started a romantic relationship with Rafe. Grace tragically died of bacterial meningitis, and Sami came clean with EJ. Eventually, it also came out that Nicole had miscarried and switched babies. Thus, Grace was not Sami and EJ's biological daughter; Sydney was. Sami regained custody of her real daughter, Sydney.
Someone kidnapped Sydney. EJ wanted to look like a hero in Sami's eyes and did when he brought Sydney home. Of course, the truth was that EJ had paid Anna to kidnap Sydney, and Rafe suspected as much. While Sami and EJ grew closer, Rafe continued his investigation. He eventually found a CD Nicole had recorded of EJ confessing to the kidnapping! Rafe raced to the DiMera mansion and interrupted Sami and EJ's wedding. Sami broke up with EJ and left with Rafe.
Determined to get Rafe out of the children's lives, Stefano and EJ hired a small-time hood to impersonate him. They gave him plastic surgery and schooled him on all things Sami to prepare him for the role. When Rafe was hospitalized after a car accident, Stefano made the switch. Rafe2 went home with Sami and immediately began sabotaging her marriage.
The DiMeras confined the real Rafe, then destroyed his memory and sent him to a mental hospital. He escaped and eventually made it to the safe house where he and Sami met. Sami and Rafe2 also both showed up. Sami figured out which Rafe was the real one, and helped him regain his memory. Bo and Hope teamed up with them to get proof that the DiMeras created the imposter and thus were responsible for all of his subsequent crimes. Eventually, Rafe2 agreed to testify against EJ and Stefano in exchange for immunity and witness protection.
Just as Stefano and EJ were about to be booked, some other inmates recognized "Rafe" and beat him to death. Stefano and EJ had to be released. Sami and Rafe were furious. To their surprise, EJ claimed that he was a changed man and signed over full custody of Johnny and Sydney to Sami.
In the lead-up to John Black's trial, Johnny went missing and was briefly assumed dead. Devastated, Sami and EJ turned to each other and had sex in the DiMera mansion, which Will witnessed.
Sami went to work for Salem newcomer Madison James's Mad World cosmetics line, until Kate hired her away. Or so it seemed. She was really working as a mole for Madison, which Rafe was none too happy about when she finally told him. Madison wanted Sami to back out of their plan, but worried that she was in too deep to get out, Sami quit working for Mad World and devoted all of her time to Countess W.
Sami reluctantly supported Rafe's decision to go into business with Carrie. Unfortunately, when she went to visit him, she found him kissing her sister. Furious, Sami ordered Rafe to move out of the apartment. Will was angry when he heard that Sami kicked Rafe out for a kiss, when she had slept with EJ. Will confided in Sonny, and Rafe overheard the conversation. Rafe confronted Sami and told her to file for divorce.
Things got worse for Sami when Kate confronted her about being the mole. Sami tried to explain that the scam ended a long time ago, but Kate wouldn't hear it. Kate told Sami that it would only be a matter of time before the police found out. As part of Stefano's plan to get revenge on Kate for her infidelity, he made Sami head of Countess W.
When EJ was framed for Stefano's "murder," Will and Sami believed in his innocence. They convinced him to flee town when he was out on bail. Sami helped EJ, despite Lucas's demands that she stay away from him. Sami went on the run with EJ, and they hid out in one of Stefano's safe houses. Things started to get romantic, but Sami put on the brakes. EJ got a lead on who was setting him up and left to investigate.
Shortly after EJ left, Rafe arrived! He handcuffed Sami to a desk to wait for EJ to return. They began talking about their relationship, and Rafe asked Sami why she threw it all away. The two reconnected. EJ's man arrived and Sami saved Rafe when the goon got the upper hand. EJ returned and found Rafe with Sami. Rafe arrested them both. Sami made bail quickly and returned home where she tried to sort out her feelings for both Rafe and EJ. EJ is clearly interested in renewing their relationship, but Rafe isn't so sure. And the fact that he claims to be the father of Nicole's baby has made things difficult for Sami.
