Elena Campbell-Martinez (MIRABELLE)
Q: What was your favorite scene to film for Coastal Dreams?
A: My favorite scene to film for Coastal Dreams was the one where Mirabelle confronts Zoe about the house being cursed and Christian runs Mirabelle off the property. There was a lot of emotion and energy sparking between all three characters.
Q: What did you think when you first met your co-stars? Good chemistry?
A: When I first met my co-stars, I was impressed with how down-to-earth they all were - no divas! Everyone was so nice... I was looking forward to getting to work with them.
Q: What was the vibe on the set?
A: The vibe on set was great - on the one hand, it was an incredibly tight shooting schedule, but on the other hand our director, Mark Cole, was able to keep things light and fun. If he was stressed about the tight schedule, he certainly didn't show it. He took good care of all of us actors, giving us the space to do what we needed to do, and at the same time keeping us laughing in between takes.
Q: Any fun/funny moments that happened during production?
A: When we did the first take of the scene where Christian runs Mirabelle off the estate, Charlie grabbed me by the arm and started dragging me down toward the beach. He was going so fast, it felt like we were practically running. As we were moving down toward the beach, I felt the pack from my mike come loose from where they had strapped it to my leg. But we continued on with the scene, and the pack ended up on the ground. So I finished the scene limping down to beach, dragging my pack along behind me like toilet paper stuck to my shoe.
Q: What did you think about your character?
A: I liked Mirabelle, because she has such a great back story with everything that happened between her and Gabriel and her husband, back when Christian was little. I liked that there's so much mystery there to explore and to reveal, both to the audience and to the rest of the characters, including Christian, who she really loves so much. It's sad to imagine that as a mother you could be so near your only son and not be able to express your love for him.
Q: What drama and excitement would you like to see in Season Two?
A: In Season Two, I would love to see Gabriel come out of hiding, and a confrontation between him and Mirabelle. I would also like to see Christian learn the truth about his relationship with Mirabelle.
I would love to see Sebastian form an alliance or two with a couple of the other characters. Who knows... we might find out that he isn't really the bad guy after all... or is he?
Q: How do you think online/interactive dramas are different/better from conventional television?
A: I think online/interactive dramas are better than conventional television, in that they give the audience so much more control over the experience. Although I don't think that the one hour format is suited to online drama, it seems that the audience does want more than just three minutes at a time, so maybe fifteen minute episodes would give them a better experience.
Q: What do you think is the future of interactive television?
A: I think the future of interactive television depends on how quickly the delivery formats can develop to keep pace with the audience's expectations. With things like YouTube, people are getting used to being able to easily download video, so the delivery of better quality videos will also have to be as easy and fast. If not, it may take a little longer for online television to catch on. Also the richer the content around the actual episode, the more people will be drawn into the character's lives and the plotlines.
Q: What do you use the internet for? [i.e. music downloads, news, myspace, etc.]
A: I use the internet for email, MySpace, researching everything from audition locations to monologues, lots of shopping for stuff for the house we're remodeling.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your career. What projects are you working on now?
A: With the writers' strike still ongoing, things have been pretty quiet since the holidays, but I've auditioned for a couple of back-door pilots. I'm also continuing to take my acting classes and looking for a good play to work in. Since I'm trying to finish the remodel of our house, as well as planning my wedding for some time in the first half of this year, I'm also spending a lot of time on projects other than acting!
