Awake

Rex gets into a fistfight with his best friend Cole during tennis practice. Britten shows up after Tara has separated the boys and wants to know what happened. Rex explains that Cole borrowed his racquet without asking and broke it, so he beat him up. End of story. Britten says that's an excuse, not an explanation. Rex walks away, telling Tara not to bother kicking him off the team, he quits. In therapy, Dr. Evans explains to Britten that anger is a typical response for a child who's experienced something as tragic and unjust as losing a parent. Britten shares how Rex is also skipping homework and his grades are slipping, leaving Britten feeling helpless. Evans wonders how Britten can expect to help his son with his loss when Britten is in denial over that same loss.
