    The Kinetic King

Tim Fort, known on the Internet as the Kinetic King, is the creator of unique, chain-reaction gadgets using techniques seen nowhere else. Born in Saint Paul in 1964, Tim never quite grew out of the playing-with-blocks stage of his childhood. He often drove his parents crazy with his stick bombs, domino chains, playing-card pyramids and many other devices. After taking up space in college for four years, he got a degree in rocket science, got married and entered the workforce. At the age of 35, he decided that he was bored with conventional employment and decided to become an artist instead. Recalling the gadgets and gizmos of his youth, he decided to create one-of-a-kind chain-reaction gadgets that go way beyond domino tumbling. Since then, he has invented different chain-reaction techniques like the herringbone, the string-a-ling, multi-celled stick bombs and the clever-lever, among many others.

Kinetic-Art Rant #4, or Here We Go Again

It's a little after 1:20 PM Pacific Daylight Time and I'm sitting under the media tent waiting for the lunch sandwiches to be delivered.  After a little nosh, I'll be prepping some of my props, and later this evening, I'll be starting the set-up for my next AGT gadget.

Without giving out too many details, I'm making a radical departure from stick bombs and using a more tried-and-true technique.  I'll be pulling another all-nighter, but it won't be nearly as long as the 36-hour marathon that ended in disaster.  I hope to have plenty of caffeine-enhanced beverages and snack items to help fuel me, plus a couch nearby in case I need a cat-nap.

I really don't know what else to write at present as my brain is overloaded on details of my intended gadget.  It's probably a good time to give a shout-out to all the other artists in my life--my dad who is an excellent woodworker and painter, my niece Bri who's an art student, my friend Kim who does seed art and other offbeat stuff, and to all the folks in my artists' co-op.

    Whoo, hoo!
